The Analyst/Senior Analyst is responsible for assisting our District Office teams with overall portfolio management and underwriting. The incumbent requires a thorough understanding of financial statement analysis and capable of following through with client enquiries and concerns in a professional manner.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
- Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Meet performance objectives and ensure progress is made towards maximizing the potential business from existing clients and prospects within an assigned market area.
- Supporting the proactive acquisition of new clients by understanding clients' needs and supporting Relationship Managers throughout the loan process;
- Deepening client relationships through increased understanding of client businesses and industries in which they operate, leveraging partners building a strong network within / outside of Scotiabank;
- Establishing, expanding and deepening a strong network with mid-market companies (prospects)and key business referral sources (COIs) in the assigned market area together with senior members of the team.
- Manage and control assigned/team loan portfolio to ensure it is at an acceptable level of risk and generates an appropriate return:
- Researching, preparing and verifying comprehensive credit applications that align with documented guidelines as set out in Roynat policies;
- Monitoring all assigned accounts to ensure conformity to terms and conditions, as stipulated in credit authorizations with timely financial statement reviews;
- Spreading financial statement data and providing solid analysis to identify trends and changes in revenue streams.
- Building sales skills and a portfolio of clients:
- Maintaining a good knowledge of other products and services offered by Scotiabank to support the identification of cross-sell/referral opportunities (i.e. Foreign Exchange, Swaps, Global Transaction Banking (GTB), Wealth Management, etc.);
- Accompanying Relationship Managers on sales calls to develop business relationships, make operational inquiries, and collect data in qualifying credit deals.
- Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?
- University degree (undergraduate or graduate level) with a focus on Economics, Commerce, Finance and/or Accounting.
- Fluency in French and English (spoken and written) required due to frequent interactions with English- and French-speaking clients and internal partners.
- Professional financial designation such as a CPA or CFA (e.g. CA, CMA, CFA) is desirable.
- Solid networking and relationships building skills with proven ability to work cross-functionally with other Roynat/Scotiabank partners.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills through consistent demonstration of approachability, ability to build trust and understanding.
- Solid knowledge of risk assessment techniques for structuring credit and financial analysis skills.
- Portfolio management skills and deal structuring skills is desirable.
- Strong presentation skills and ability to adapt to change readily.

Pursuant to a language needs assessment conducted by Scotiabank, the successful candidate will be required to be able to communicate in English, in addition to French because they will be required to work closely with other groups from head office who operate primarily in English and they will serve and English-speaking clientele.
