The Department of Health is seeking individuals to join the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health as a Medical Officer of Health (MOH) for existing and future opportunities, in various locations within New Brunswick, which may be either permanent or temporary. Reporting to the Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Health, the successful candidate will work with teams of professionals from the regional health authority and partner departments.
As the Medical Officer of Health, you will:
- Provide advice, expertise, and assistance on aspects of:
- health advocacy and promotion;
- surveillance, prevention, and control of communicable diseases, including the delivery of immunization services;
- health protection programs, including recreational and drinking water, food safety, and air quality;
- detection, investigation and mitigation of risks from environmental hazards and from injuries; and
- coordination of emergency response by Public Health staff.
- Provide medical/technical advice, consultation, and support to regional teams of multidisciplinary professionals directly involved in the delivery of numerous Public Health programs and services (i.e., Nurses, Nutritionists, Public Health Inspectors, etc.).
- Collaborate with community partners in the pursuance of common Public Health goals and objective.
- Act as a resource to the medical community and community-based health organizations in matters of Public Health.
- Act as the senior representative of the Department of Health for matters of Public Health in the region.
- Act as an advocate for the prevention and control of disease and the improvement of conditions and factors leading to better health in the community.
- Facilitate enforcement of applicable sections of the Public Health Act and its regulations.
- Act as a media spokesperson in the region on matters related to Public Health.
- Participate in the MOH call schedule to ensure out of hours access to MOH expertise.

Essential Qualifications:
- MOH I: Graduation from an approved school of medicine supplemented by a Masters in Public Health or in a related health field with applicable focus on disease prevention and control, epidemiology of communicable disease, and health promotion and protection, and a minimum of two (2) years of related experience.
- MOH II: Graduation from an approved school of medicine, supplemented by certification in the medical speciality of Public Health and Preventative Medicine; or
- Graduation from an approved school of medicine supplemented by a Masters in Public Health or in a related health field with applicable focus on disease prevention and control, epidemiology of communicable disease, health promotion and protection, and a minimum of four (4) years of related experience.
- Applicants will require substantive knowledge in various areas of public health, including aspects of epidemiology and surveillance, prevention and control of communicable diseases (including outbreak management), immunization, health promotion, health protection, risk assessment, disease and injury prevention, and principles of population health.
- Some positions require written and spoken competence in French and English. Others will require written and spoken competence in English only. Please state your language capability on your application.
Necessary Special Requirement:
- Applicants must be eligible for full licensure for independent practice with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick.

Technical Competencies: The successful candidate will possess the following technical competency:
- Specialized Subject Matter Expertise and Knowledge in areas such as: communicable disease control; environmental health; risk assessment; management and communication; injury and chronic disease prevention; health promotion, including social marketing; epidemiology; statistical and toxicological methodologies, principles and practices.

Salary: MOH I - $ 249,054 to $ 268,060 per annum
MOH II - $ 273,962 to $ 302,796 per annum
