YOUR FOCUS

Reporting to the Executive Assistant to the Dean of Nursing, the Technology Systems Coordinator and SIM Lab Technician is responsible for managing information technology systems, coordinating and providing IT specialist services including repair, managing simulation lab activities, maintaining virtual reality equipment, and offering audio-visual support specifically tailored for classroom environment.

  • Provide expertise on the development, implementation, and evaluation of innovative teaching technologies for both in-person and virtual environments as well as offer support to both faculty and students in both in-person and virtual environments.
  • Collaborate with faculty to develop and facilitate simulations, advise on curricular design, delivery and programming equipment as required.
  • Prepare lab and other related spaces as required for use in courses, workshops or site visits ensuring seamless educational activities.
  • Operate audio visual (A/V) equipment during live streaming and viewing simulation activities.
  • Design and prepare realistic simulations of wounds, bodily fluids and other related injuries or ailments to be used on mannequins.
  • Manage daily use of the Simulation Lab including but not limited to maintaining stock and organization of required supplies, staging and maintenance of equipment, managing open lab hour bookings and enforcing regulations related to use of space.
  • Assemble, operate, program, and update high-fidelity simulators, computers, mannequins, instruments, and other medical equipment for various simulation activities.
  • Source and purchase equipment as needed both independently and via Procurement (depending on budget), ensuring that delivery times align with scheduled activities.
  • Coordinate and deliver lab orientation to students, current and new faculty as required including in- service on any new equipment.
  • Produce (capture and edit) multimedia for use in asynchronous simulations and courseware.
  • Oversee hiring process, manage delegation of duties, scheduling, and submission of time sheets for successful students.
  • Coordinate annual orientation on VR headset use for students and provide instructions for maintenance and use; collaborate with Programs & Operations Coordinator in Moncton to manage distribution and return of headsets and report any damages that will result in students not having their security deposits returned.
  • Coordinate laundering of linens at the end of each term as well as collection and/ or replacement of sharps containers as needed.
  • Troubleshoot printers, photocopiers and any technical issues that occur.
  • Liaise with IT Services in Fredericton on behalf of the Faculty, Staff & Students at UNB.
  • Provide in person classroom support and remote support as needed.
  • Provide guidance and direction on further development and updating of learning spaces in Moncton.
  • Develop and maintain a Learning Technologies database for consultation, referral and resource allocation (both internal and external) as part of the Learn Where You Live initiative.
  • Provide faculty and staff with hands-on and remote assistance and instruction intended to facilitate use of office equipment and educational technology they will have access to within their roles.
  • Prepare and submit annual funding application for Simulation Lab Assistant via Career Development and Employment Services.
  • Produce (capture and edit) multimedia for use in asynchronous simulations and courseware.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Post-secondary education in the field of technology. Bachelor's degree in information science, information systems or related field.
  • Minimum of two years related technology work experience.
  • Minimum of one-year related Project Coordinator work experience.

Additional Strengths

  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software applications relevant to simulation and virtual learning laboratories.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software applications relevant to Audio Visual Technology and Virtual Reality
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 Suite. Experience troubleshooting various operating systems.
  • Self-motivated, self-directed in current educational technologies, knowledgeable and solutions oriented.
  • Ability to apply forward thinking and creativity in anticipating and meeting the needs of the students and the learning environment(s) are important assets.
