THE OPPORTUNITY

The Controller plays an important role in the day-to-day financial operations and the efficient functioning of our corporate accounts and financial reporting. This position requires a strong blend of financial acumen, operational expertise, and a keen interest in understanding the venture capital industry.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will:

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including P&L, and balance sheets.
  • Develop annual operating budgets and monthly variance reports with input from the leadership team.
  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable/receivable, and payroll in accordance with service level agreements and schedules.
  • Oversee bank and credit card reconciliation.
  • Oversee and assist with employee expense reporting.
  • Track program budgets and manage payments and disbursements of investments.
  • Prepare for and liaise with auditors during annual audits.
  • Manage the corporate contract and subscription registry.
  • Implement and maintain financial operatings systems, policies, and processes
  • Ensure compliance with tax laws, financial regulations, and internal policies.
  • Prepare and oversee HST remittance and annual corporate returns.
  • Provide insights and analysis to support decision-making.
  • Assist with additional reporting and other accountabilities as assigned.

WHAT ARE YOUR QUALIFICATIONS?

  • Post-secondary degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • 2-5 years of experience in finance, accounting, or a related field.
  • Solid understanding of financial accounting principles and monthly financial reporting practices.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Experience managing and processing Accounts Payable (A/P), Accounts Receivable (A/R), credit cards, employee expenses, payroll, HST and annual return filings.
  • Familiar with audit processes and liaising with external auditors.
  • Adept in financial tools and platforms such as Excel, QuickBooks Online, Plooto, Dext, and other banking platforms.
  • Excellent time management and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced collaborative setting and are equally comfortable working independently.
  • Has a growth mindset and are passionate about making a difference in New Brunswick.
  • CPA designation is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance is considered an asset.
  • Written and verbal communication in French is considered as asset.

THE LITTLE DETAILS

  • This role is based out of NBIF's Fredericton office located in Knowledge Park, however this is subject to negotiation. Occasional travel within the province may be required.
  • Office hours are 8:30 am-5:00 pm with the occasional evening event.
