Horizon Health Network (Horizon) is seeking an experienced and energetic media and stakeholder relations professional to join our team as a Manager, Media and Stakeholder Relations. The ideal candidate will have experience leading, developing, and executing media and stakeholder relations strategies and initiatives and will have demonstrated expertise in media relations.

The Manager, Media and Stakeholder Relations will be a key member of the Communications portfolio, consisting of an integrated team of communication, marketing, and stakeholder relations professionals. We tell the stories of how Horizon staff, physicians, volunteers and patients, clients and family members are working to improve health care in our province and help ensure New Brunswickers have the information they need about their health care services.

Our team members have meaningful influence with health care leaders within Horizon, helping guide the organization through complex and challenging situations involving various internal and external stakeholders.

Our portfolio is responsible for: corporate communications; internal communications; digital communications; media relations; marketing and advertising; creative services (graphic design, photography and videography); stakeholder relations; and translation services.

Reporting to the Regional Director, Corporate Communications, the Manager, Media and Stakeholder Relations will lead, develop, and execute Horizon's media and stakeholder relations strategies and initiatives. The successful candidate will ensure that all media and stakeholder relations activities protect and advance Horizon's corporate reputation.

The incumbent will provide oversight, leadership and coaching to a team of two media and stakeholder relations professionals and will ensure the team's objectives and deadlines are met. The successful candidate will also play a key role in supporting the Communications portfolio's Regional Directors and Senior Director as well as leaders across the organization, including Horizon's President and CEO and Executive Leadership Team, by providing strategic media, stakeholder relations and communications advice and project management support.

Who you are

The ideal candidate will have at least 7-10 years of experience in communications, media relations and stakeholder relations with at least three years of management experience.

Other qualifications include:

  • A degree in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing media and stakeholder relations strategies and tactics to advance an organization's mission and goals, ideally with a background in health care or in a large, complex corporate environment/organization.
  • The incumbent should be an organized self-starter, capable of engaging others and demonstrating leadership to achieve results.
  • Strong project management, problem-solving and writing and editing skills.
  • Proficiency in French considered an asset.
  • Written and spoken competence in English is required.

What you will do

This position will allow the successful candidate to gain experience and expertise in external communications, media relations and stakeholder relations and engagement and work with health care providers, leadership, and support personnel from across our organization.

The Manager, Media and Stakeholder Relations will:

  • Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with the media on behalf of Horizon, acting as the primary media liaison.
  • Oversee all media inquiries, identifying appropriate Horizon spokespeople, ensuring consistent messaging across all communication channels to shape public perception and protect the company's reputation.
  • Lead and oversee the development of communication strategies, writing news releases, coordinating media interviews, organizing press events, and monitoring media coverage to identify potential issues and responding accordingly.
  • Oversee the development of internal and external stakeholder relations strategies, plans, and tactics, including stakeholder identification, mapping, and engagement planning.
  • Collaborate and maintain strong linkages to internal and external stakeholders to keep abreast of issues, share best practices and collaborate on mutual efforts.
  • Provide direction related to the proactive identification of stakeholder engagement opportunities to share Horizon's corporate priorities through various channels.
  • Provide leadership, direction and coaching to the Media and Stakeholder Relations team and ensure successful organizational outcomes and an engaged team.
  • Oversee day-to-day activities of direct reports, including budgeting, planning and staff development.
  • Provide strategic media and stakeholder relations advice to ensure information disseminated from Horizon aligns with corporate strategic goals and preserves and improves reputation.
  • Provide crisis and issues support, using all available resources and tools to address and manage situations as they arise to reduce and mitigate reputational harm.
  • Determine objective quality control standards and oversee related media and stakeholder relations processes.

Other job requirements include:

  • Travelling within New Brunswick, sometimes on short notice.
  • Occasionally working evenings or weekends.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and social media platforms.
