As part of the Customer Service & Distribution team, the Pole Setter is responsible for the installation and maintenance of all types of poles, anchors and apparatus grounds for the distribution system, and the preventative and emergency pole replacement and maintenance of poles and anchors on the transmission system. They are also accountable for the safe and efficient operation, inspection and maintenance and operation of heavy equipment as well as the transportation of materials and equipment in compliance with federal and provincial regulations. Work also includes the pickup and delivery of materials and equipment for other work groups.
Key functions include:
• Support distribution pole setting via the operation of boom trucks, mini excavators, mini dump trucks and various types of offroad machines for the construction and maintenance of distribution lines in both energized and de-energized environments.
• Load, provide guidance and/or assist in the loading, transportation and unloading of equipment and materials being moved in compliance with federal and provincial regulations as well as ensure associated documentation is complete and accurate.
• Perform routine inspections, minor repairs, and service of the equipment as necessary and maintain the vehicle logbook for all vehicles operated. Assist others with labour related duties when not operating equipment.
The ideal teammate will have:
• High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)
• Valid Class 1E drivers license with Airbrake Endorsement
• Three (3) years of experience operating the following equipment to support pole-setting operations:
- Excavator
- Float Truck
- Boom Truck
An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be modified.
An Eligibility List generated from this competition may be used to fill future vacancies at the same level within a period of up to 12 months.
