We are currently looking for a full time Health, Safety & Wellness Coordinator to join our Freeman Lumber Team. This role reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer and is the main point of contact for Freeman Lumber as it pertains to the workplace health and safety of employees. This position helps improve the overall health and safety in the workplace. The Health, Safety & Wellness Coordinator duties include assessing safety, enforcing safety process and procedures and education of employees to prevent workplace incidents.
Responsibilities include:
· Develop health and safety program, policies and procedures to minimize safety risks and incidents
· Organize and conduct health and safety training
· Complete risk assessments as required to gather information on potential safety issues
· Analyzing health and safety data and provide quarterly reporting to the Chief Operating Officer
· Direct accident investigations and file reports
· Maintain documentation of safety-related incidents (high potentials and medical aids) and propose corrective actions to minimize similar incidents in the future
· Collaborate with leaders to monitor compliance with safe work practices and recommend improvements
· Intervene in observed unsafe work practices
· Liaise with WCB on workplace accident claims
· Liaise with Department of Labour, in conjunctions with the Chief Operating Officer, on all workplace accidents
Skill and Abilities:
· In-depth knowledge of Nova Scotia Department of Labour health and safety processes and procedures
· Experience in developing health and safety policies and procedures
· Understanding and ability to interpret NS OH&S Act and Regulations
· Experience in implementing occupational health and safety programs
· Demonstrated reporting of statistics to leadership
· Proficient in Microsoft Office
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
