Wound Management Consultant

Positions located in Eastern Zone and Western Zone

The Health Association of Nova Scotia (HANS) has partnered with Department of Seniors and Long-Term Care (DSLTC) to oversee and deliver the provincial program, supporting the continuing care sector. This sector includes all licensed and funded long-term care providers, as well as publicly funded home care providers offering nursing services. The Wound Management Program, which began in April 2021, is now expanding for the third time to add two additional positions to the team.

The ideal candidate will join an expanding team to support the implementation and expansion of a provincial program focused on the prevention, assessment, and management of wounds within Long-Term Care and Home Care settings. This program emphasizes a person-centered care approach. The consultant plays a critical role within the healthcare team, addressing the needs of clients and residents with complex and challenging wounds to ensure the achievement of optimal clinical outcomes. Through the application of evidence-informed practices, the consultant will facilitate improvements in wound care outcomes for healthcare teams across the continuum of care, spanning home/community settings and long-term care. The consultant's responsibilities include providing program support, consultation, education, and capacity building in the prevention and management of wounds.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Associate degree in Nursing or graduation from an accredited and approved nursing program
  • Registered in good standing with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing
  • Successful completion of a recognized wound care program is required such as:
    • International Interdisciplinary Wound Care Course (IIWWCC)
    • Nurses Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence Canada (NSWOCC)
    • University of Hertfordshire Master of Science Clinical Skin Integrity and Wound Management
    • University of Toronto Master of Science in Community Health and Wound Healing
    • University of Western Ontario Master of Clinical Science in Wound Healing
    • Cardiff University Master of Science in Wound Healing and Tissue Repair Nurses

Experience

  • Minimum of one year of related leadership experience is required
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant clinical experience in wound care required, combined with previous work experience within a clinical practice environment in home/community and/or long-term care is required
  • Ability to speak and write French an asset
  • Experience in adult education/teaching experience considered an asset
  • Consideration may be given to completion of the Wounds Canadas Sharp Super Program or Wound Care Champion Program. Institute (WOC Institute) Skin Wellness Associate (SWAN) Program

Equivalency established through alternate qualifications and/or experience may be considered.

  • As this is a provincial service travel will be required and access to transportation and a valid driver's license are conditions of employment.
