The Department of Natural Resources and Energy Development is seeking an individual to join the Human Resource Services Branch, as a Health and Safety Consultant, located in Fredericton.

As a member of the Human Resource Services team, you will provide client focused and integrated advice and services across the Department of Natural Resources and Energy Development and the Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries, in the areas of wellness, health and safety.

Key responsibilities of this position include the following:

  • Providing guidance as a subject matter expert on all occupational health and safety matters, standards, risk assessment methodologies and safety management systems.
  • Rolling out of corporate-wide health and safety initiatives.
  • Designing and implementing a health and safety management system.
  • Maintaining a fundamental health and safety program and initiatives on behalf of the organization with an emphasis on compliance, critical hazard identification and risk reduction designed to promote a culture of skilled and safe workplaces.
  • Evaluating current processes and practices to ensure standardization.
  • Develop and deliver required regulatory health and safety educational sessions.
  • Liaising between WorkSafeNB and the department, assisting and advising the department as it relates to any form of regulatory requirement or order.
  • Maintaining the health and safety program and providing tools to assist the department, to ensure they meet their regulatory compliance requirements, and ensuring tools are kept up to date, easily available and clearly communicated.
  • Providing the department advice, tools and technical support related to conducting investigations related to incidents, hazardous materials, near misses, issues and complaints.
  • Coaching supervisors and managers on their duties relating to health and safety.
  • Providing up-dates and reporting to Senior Management and Joint Health Safety Committees.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: A University degree in Business Administration with related coursework in Occupational Health and Safety and a minimum of five (5) years of related work experience; OR a post-secondary diploma in Occupational Health and Safety and a minimum of seven (7) years of safety-related work experience; OR a post?secondary certificate in a related field and a minimum of nine (9) years of safety-related work experience. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.

Written and spoken competence in English and French is required. Please state your language capability on your application.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be prepared to: work outside the usual work hours on occasion; travel throughout the province as required.

SALARY: $64,974 to $90,740 per annum
