The Climate Change Secretariat (CCS) plays an instrumental leadership role in ensuring that New Brunswick reduces its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and increases our resiliency and response to the challenges and opportunities presented by climate change. The CCS also focuses on initiatives related to education, awareness, and capacity-building and the CCS is responsible for the Climate Change Act and associated regulations. It is also responsible for the development of New Brunswick's Climate Change Action Plans and coordinates its implementation, tracking and reporting. The Secretariat works with government departments and agencies to ensure that actions on climate change are integrated with governmental policies, programs, and day-to-day decisions. The CCS also engages local governments and non-government partners and various stakeholders to increase knowledge and capacity while encouraging lower carbon and resilient investments and practices.

The Department of Environment and Local Government provides integrated stewardship through planning and management of land use, and waste management issues. It ensures effective enforcement of, and compliance with, environmental legislation and regulations and provides effective consultation and liaison with local governments, regional service commissions and Rural Districts on governance related issues.

What you will do
As a member of the Climate Change Secretariat, reporting to the Director of Strategic Climate Initiatives, you will be responsible for:

  • Monitoring progress of actions within New Brunswick's Climate Change Action Plan (CCAP);
  • Ensuring collaboration between departments and agencies that have accountabilities to deliver actions documented within the CCAP;
  • Regular reporting to government and the public regarding progress on the CCAP;
  • Providing coordination of strategic initiatives within the Climate Change Secretariat, including coordinating the renewal of the CCAP and coordination of Environmental Trust Fund for the Secretariat.

Essential qualifications
The successful candidate must have a bachelor's degree in a field related to environmental science, business, or a related field and a minimum of four (4) years of related experience, including a combination of the following:

  • Project coordination;
  • Stakeholder engagement; and
  • Developing partnerships with government departments, agencies, and stakeholders

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Written and spoken competence in English is required. Please state your language capability.

Asset Qualifications
Preference may be given to candidates that demonstrate:

  • Experience with project management; and
  • Experience working within the climate change sector.

Wage
Pay Band 4: $2,216 to $3,099 bi-weekly, based on 36.25 hours per week

Work environment

  • Office location: 20 McGloin (Marysville Place), Fredericton.
  • Office layout: cubicles
  • Standard hours of work: Monday - Friday, 8:15-4:30 (office schedule)
  • Possibility of remote work within New Brunswick.
