Purpose
The Manager, Strategic Planning and Assessment contributes to the overall success of the Canadian Banking portfolio ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. The successful candidate will be responsible for processes related to Portfolio Execution Governance and Reporting, and ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
Accountabilities
- Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Working with the Director, Centralized Delivery Services as well as cross-functional Business and support functions, the incumbent is responsible to:
- Provide oversight, support and monitoring for all aspects of Portfolio Governance and Execution; and is responsible for the management of portfolio analytics and financial reporting.
- Contributes actively to compliance of DPMO KPIs for CB portfolio aligned to Bank's policies and standards.
- Contributes actively to Executive dashboards and reporting to CB leadership
- Acts as a subject matter expert for Portfolio Execution and best practices; proactively identifies opportunities to improve reporting and/or drive the use of analytics.
- Provides support and coaching to Project Teams and partners as required, to ensure project metrics are managed in a robust and controlled manner.
- Manage governance forums as required with primarily business stakeholders, technology partners and other support functions.
- Builds effective working relationships within the team and partnerships with Bank's stakeholders including CB Finance, EPMO, Project Controls, Planning and Value Realization teams.
- Actively seeks and evaluates opportunities for increased efficiency through automation and works with key stakeholders to implement changes as appropriate.
- Respond to ad-hoc investigations, inquiries, data, and report requests as assigned
- Ability to design and develop/enhance innovative reporting solutions using Power BI is an asset
- Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Education/Experience/Other Information
- Minimum education level of a University Degree in Accounting, Business or Finance
- Certification related to Project management, Scrum, or Scaled Agile
- Working towards or have CPA or other accounting designation is a plus
- 5+ years experience working in Financial Sector or Banking industry is preferred, preferably within Finance or Project Management.
- Strong knowledge and/or experience of End-to-End Project Life Cycle and Software Development Lifecycle
- Strong Knowledge and/or experience of Bank's Policies and Procedures
- Exposure to stakeholder management across highly matrixed organizations
- Expert knowledge of MS Excel, MS Access and VBA
- Strong knowledge of data management, aggregation and analysis techniques
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, and experience with presentations
- Strong business acumen, planning and organization skills
- Flexible and adaptable to rapidly changing environment
- Ability to manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines
- Strong work ethic, continuous improvement mindset with a can-do attitude
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Proficient experience visualizing/presenting data for stakeholders using data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau
