Senior Ecologist/Biologist

GEMTEC is a growing firm with offices throughout Atlantic Canada and in Ontario, and we are looking for a motivated and skilled Senior Ecologist/Biologist to join our Team in the Greater Toronto and Barrie area. We currently have an opening for a full-time Senior Ecologist/Biologist in our Barrie, Mississauga or Oshawa, ON offices.


The successful candidate will have the following:


Educational & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science (Biology, Environmental Science, Forestry) or Environmental Technologist Diploma.
  • Professional registration (RPBio or relevant equivalent).
  • Minimum 15+ years of related work experience, preferably in the consulting industry.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in the field and in the application of natural environment consulting for municipal, provincial and federal Environmental Assessment and Environmental Impact Studies.
  • Experience conducting field work, and training / mentoring junior staff in undertaking field work.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Wetland Delineation Training is considered an asset.
  • Wetland Ecosystem Services Protocol Training is considered an asset.
  • Backpack Electrofishing Certification is considered and asset.
  • ISA certificated arborist is considered an asset.

Main Duties:


The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience in the following:

  • Lead / supervise the undertaking of environmental and biological fieldwork for a variety of environmental regulatory and permitting requirements at the federal, provincial and municipal levels.
  • Lead / supervise terrestrial field programs (i.e., wetland delineation and functional assessments, baseline habitat assessments, vegetation surveys, nesting bird surveys).
  • Responsible for the preparation of associated reports in support of the completion of EIA/EA baseline studies and reports and other permitting requirements as applicable.
  • Responsible for the preparation of environmental permitting applications for a variety of sectors in a variety of programs at municipal, provincial and federal levels.
  • Responsible for the preparation of reports and other documents and associated data analysis and mapping, as required.
  • Develop and implement management plans to protect and restore ecosystems.
  • Responsible as a Project Manager to deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Collaborate with other professionals in related fields, such as environmental scientists and conservationists.
  • Train / mentor junior and intermediate staff (i.e., field work, proposal and report writing, client development).
  • Develop new and maintain existing client relationships and contribute to the overall performance and growth of the business.
  • Work with other senior professionals and leaders to develop the local and wider business, mentor staff, maintain a strong health and safety culture, and manage risk.
  • Following all company Health, Safety and Environmental policies.
  • Other duties, as required.

Position:


• Full time position available.
• 37.5 hours/week with opportunity for overtime (during busy season).
• Must have a valid driver's license.
