Contaminated Sites Professional

We are seeking a fulltime Contaminated Sites Professional in our St. John's, NL office. The Contaminated Sites Lead, and their staff will work closely with other groups within the company, both in NL and other offices across the Atlantic and Ontario regions, including environmental assessment, mining, hydrogeology, hydrology, engineering teams, etc.


The successful candidate will have the following:


Educational & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or geoscience from an accredited institution, or a bachelor's degree in earth science or environmental science. A post-graduate degree is considered an asset.
  • Professional license in NL (i.e., P.Geo. or P.Eng.), or sufficient experience as an environmental scientist in contaminated sites to qualify as a Registered Site Professional.
  • Be registered, or eligible to be registered as a Site Professional with the Impacted Sites Management Section (ISMS) of Newfoundland and Labrador Environment and Climate Change.
  • Minimum 12 years of relevant professional experience. Experience in consulting is considered an asset.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of provincial and federal regulatory frameworks for groundwater withdrawal/use, drinking water supply, contaminated sites assessment and management, and environmental assessment is required.
  • Strong knowledge of physical hydrogeology, dewatering, potable groundwater supply, and groundwater and surface water monitoring programs.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure, pit and quarry, and community supply required. Specific experience in the mining industry is considered an asset.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills (English), as well as strong organizational abilities, with respect to the capability to manage and prioritize several assignments at one time with a view to delivery of a quality product on time and on budget.
  • Groundwater flow and transport modeling experience is an asset.
  • Numerical and advanced hydraulic testing experience is an asset.
  • Senior project management and people management skills are required.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic consulting environment that requires flexibility and the willingness to work overtime, as required.

Main Duties:


The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience in the following:

  • Provide leadership and mentorship of junior and intermediate environmental professionals and staff.
  • Provide consulting services in the field of contaminated sites management for government and private industry clients.
  • Provide technical support to a wide variety of environmental projects, including the preparation and supervision of field programs, data analysis, and technical report writing and proposal preparation.
  • Data compilation and interpretation, including water quality results, hydraulic response testing data analysis, water balance assessments, water take/dewatering estimation, and impact assessment analysis.
  • Interpretation and application of municipal by-laws, provincial and federal acts and regulations.
  • Senior review of technical documents as a Professional Engineer/Professional Geoscientist.
  • Business development in support of growth of the contaminated sites and environmental practices.
  • Manage client needs and client communication for a given project.
  • Project management and budget development and management.
  • Adhering to all company policies.
  • Other duties as required.


Position:

  • Full time salaried position.
  • 37.5 hours per week.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
