The Mechanical Structural Engineer will provide the necessary support for maintaining structures and structurally related systems to meet the demands of the operational fleet. This support also extends to interior components, evacuation systems doors and windows. To achieve this, the incumbent will utilize key technical DND processes such as Corrective maintenance Program Change (CMPC), Alternate Part Approval Form (APAF) Aircraft Inspection Change Proposal (AICP) and Aircraft Modification Approval Form (AMAF). An additional function is to provide engineering support to the maintenance and repair of airframe structures and mechanical systems and be involved with engineering projects inclusive of modification and design. Responsible to the Engineering Manager, this position will liaise with various interrelated stakeholders such as the Department of National Defense (DND), Engineering groups, Supply Chain Management, Repair and Overhaul, Integrated Logistics Support and Configuration/Data Management. The incumbent will be expected to attain a sufficient Airworthiness Approval Authorization Status to perform functions within a DND Acceptable Technical Organization based on knowledge, experience and training.
What You Will Do:- Monitor health of aircraft structures and structural systems.
- Conduct effective communications and liaise on technical matters with representatives from DND, Original Engineering Manufacturers, Engineering groups and Design Authorities.
- Develop preventative measures, identify trends, and determine fleet impact on Flight Safety (FS) occurrences.
- Provide support and technical input to technical meetings.
- Perform and support maintenance program monitoring, maintenance rationalization, and maintenance requirements analysis.
- Conduct activities associated with implementing and monitoring corrective action regarding service difficulty reporting, special inspections, service bulletins and airworthiness directives.
- Direct disposition of spare and repairable assets.
- Analize unsatisfactory condition reports.
- Initiate and/or review configuration change requests.
- Prepare procurement and R&O estimates Catalogue new components using DRMIS.
- Initiate and/or approve changes to the technical publications.
- Liaise with the ILS/LSA group for Obsolescence Reporting and Sparing Analysis.
- Complete structural/mechanical engineering design for modification, repair and prototype installations.
- Complete stress/structural analysis reports to substantiate engineering design.
- Other tasks as assigned.
- B. Eng. or BSc (Eng) in Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering.
- Clear and effective written and oral skills.
- Ability to manage tasks and projects.
- Knowledge of airworthiness regulations and standards.
- Five or more years experience in an aircraft engineering or aircraft maintenance environment.
- Basic competence with Microsoft Office software products.
- Sound interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with people at all levels within the organization and outside agencies.
- Must be a team player and show good self-discipline with an ability to work independently when required.
- Must possess an ability to logically assimilate information and identify related causal factors.
- Experience with maintenance and repair design of airframe and mechanical systems.
- Must be eligible for registration with the Controlled Goods Program Must be eligible to obtain and maintain at least the Canada Reliability Status or Secret level security clearance Must be eligible to meet the requirements for US International traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)
- Preferred Requirements:
- Experience with the DND aerospace modification process.
- Experience with life cycle materiel management or have taken an LCMM course.
- Knowledgeable with CC130 structures and mechanical systems.
- Experience with DND resource management and maintenance management information system (DRMIS) Experience with the DND Technical Airworthiness Program.
