The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Superintendent, Mine Planning to join our team in the Mines Technical Services Department at Garson mine in Sudbury, Ontario.
This is a permanent on-site position, working on a Monday to Friday dayshift and the incumbent must also be available for on-call duties throughout the year.
As a Superintendent, Mine Planning you will manage the mid-range and IOS teams for the site. The role is accountable for the following: developing the integrated site mine plan and schedule; execution of the Asset Management business processes within the Vale Production System (VPS) and usage of related systems/tools such as Deswik, Power BI, etc. The role also includes the management of a team of Engineers, Mine Technical Services Planners, and Schedulers.
Additionally, in this position you will:
- Ensure accountability for the 3-year Budget, Quarterly Plans, and weekly performance metrics.
- Estimate resources (equipment, personnel, materials) to support mine plans and budgets.
- Develop mid-range mine designs, including production, development, and infrastructure.
- Assist in monthly deviation analysis and report on KPI variances.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and expand the use of business processes (VPS Technical).
- Create and manage schedules for major plant outages and integrate cross-boundary timelines.
- Lead operations optimization and report weekly on production and development trends.
- Collaborate effectively with operations, projects, maintenance, and other internal teams.
About You
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mine Engineering or related field is required.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) Registration is preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of related experience is required in Mine Engineering, Operations Supervision, Planning, Scheduling or related role.
- Expertise in project planning and engineering supervision.
- Understanding of mining standards, integrated business planning cycles, and Solid financial knowledge to make business cases and decisions.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and Software Planning Tools (Deswik)
- Knowledge and understanding of Project Management, Engineering and VPS Technical.
Skills:
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and work well with others in a team environment.
- Must have strong written and oral communication skills.
- Must be obsessed with safety and risk.
- Must demonstrate open and transparent dialogue in all aspects of work.
