Position: Vice President, Governance & Controls, GBM Internal Control

Purpose

  • Responsible for providing strategic direction and oversight with respect to the management of non-financial risks in Global Banking & Markets (GBM) business lines. Responsible for the Communications Surveillance program, Regulatory Trade Controls, Regulatory Onboarding Controls, the Volcker program, Broker/Venue Onboarding oversight and the operationalization of all GBM-wide policies and procedures.
  • Works collaboratively with GBM business lines (Line 1A and 1B) and the second lines of defence (e.g. Compliance), thereby contributing to the overall success of the first line of defence in managing non-financial risks inherent in the businesses.

Accountabilities

  • Oversight of GBM Communications Surveillance program; leads engagement with primary regulators and key vendors
  • Oversight of Regulatory Trade Controls and Regulatory Onboarding Controls programs; serves as key point of escalation and decision-maker on strategic direction
  • Oversight of Global AML program; serves as key point of escalation and decision-maker on strategic direction
  • Oversight of GBM Supervision program, inclusive of the Written Supervisory Procedure program
  • Leads interpretation of, and operationalization of, enterprise-wide policies/initiatives within GBM
  • Provides steer to Broker/Venue onboarding program as it heads towards a mature and sustainable state
  • Change leadership and program management across the full suite of global initiatives and projects
  • Strategic lead for continued build-out of a new GBM Internal Control presence in Bogota, Colombia; define the book of work and plot the roadmap for continued growth and expansion
  • Strategic direction – have a view of what 'good' looks like and inform the global program accordingly, across all dimensions
  • Work closely with 2nd line colleagues on program development and evolution so as to ensure that outcomes are fit for purpose for GBM
  • Engage with the business to understand how Internal Control can help delivery on their risk, control and other objectives
  • Issue management – act as point of escalation for critical issues across the span of control, keep executive layer informed as required (escalate effectively)
  • Lead by example – operate with kindness and empathy and be a great colleague to all those around you and a great manager to those that you have responsibility for
  • Leads, attract, retains, develop and motivate team by fostering an inclusive work environment; communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team.
  • Dynamic, fast paced office-based environment.
  • Occasional travel is required;
  • Demands can be unpredictable; In-office work hours may be long due to tight timeframes and the dynamic environment of capital market activities, and to provide support to other locations.

Education / Experience

  • At least 10 years of experience in a capital markets and wholesale banking role;
  • This role requires significant capital markets and wholesale banking product knowledge for the full life cycle of a transaction. Knowledge of market risk, credit risk and operational risk is required to prevent and detect fraud and market abuse;
  • Expertise in regulatory and compliance requirements for all GBM locations;
  • Experience in developing controls and regulatory reporting is required;
  • Experience in developing standards and procedures that address global and local requirements;
  • Ability to balance multiple competing priorities and make progress on addressing significant risk issues;
  • Strong written and verbal communications and inter-personal skills.
