As the regulator of Nova Scotia's legal profession, the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society exists to uphold and protect the public interest in the practice of law. The Nova Scotia Barristers' Society oversees clerks' and lawyers' accreditation with their admissions and licensing process, establishes ethical standards, ensures the professional responsibility of lawyers, and strives to improve the administration of justice. The Society proactively works to create a legal profession that broadly reflects the diverse public it serves.
Project Overview
The legal information landscape has changed significantly over the past several years changing the way legal professionals' access legal information. This project seeks to review current legal information services provided by the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society's Library and identify a service delivery model that can provide more relevant and timely information for legal professionals in Nova Scotia.
What you'll be doing:
In collaboration with the Society's Library Review Committee, you'll develop and manage a detailed project plan that incorporates an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) lens and approach to the work and key activities of the project including:
- Cultivating relationships with various interest holders to understand user needs;
- Conducting data collection and analysis as well as researching best practices and benchmarking against industry standards;
- Performing an in-depth operational review of the Barristers' Library to identify opportunities for improving service delivery;
- Synthesizing findings from the review into actionable recommendations and developing a comprehensive implementation plan.
What we are looking for:
We are seeking an experienced, innovative, and resourceful Law Librarian to join our team. This position requires significant initiative and sound judgment as well as demonstrated experience leading impactful change and fostering collaboration with stakeholders.
- A MLIS/MI from an ALA accredited library school or equivalent education and experience;
- A minimum of 3-5 years of increasing responsibility as a law librarian including the management of budget, resources, and technology;
- Excellent project management experience;
- Strong analytical; research, and evaluation skills;
- Superior communication and interpersonal skills;
- Experience managing legal databases and knowledge management systems.
