Talk With Me provides a continuum of speech-language pathology services at the community level, with a strong emphasis on capacity building in promotion, prevention, and early identification for pre-school children (birth to 5 years old).

The Opportunity:

Position: Speech Therapy Assistant

Department: Talk With Me - Anglophone East School District

Internal/External: Internal/External

Employment Type: 12-month Permanent Full Time (1.0 FTE)

Union: CUPE Local 2745

Hours: 36.25 hours per week

Reports to: The Director of Early Childhood Services or designate.

Location: The office is located in Moncton. Travel will be required throughout the communities of the Anglophone East School District catchment.

DEFINITION

The primary role of the Speech Therapy Assistant (STA) is to provide support to the Speech-Language Pathologist in coordinating and providing community-based services.

  • Facilitate or co-facilitate group sessions with adults and children.
  • Participate in community events and activities (e.g. information booths, fairs, guest speaker at community partner group).
  • Work collaboratively with community partners.
  • Demonstrate an interest and comfort level in working with both young children and parents in group settings (activities may include talking, reading, singing, and telling stories in front of other adults).
  • Work independently utilizing effective time management skills with the ability to prioritize work assignments based on the needs of the team.
  • Work a flexible schedule (to better serve clients, working in the evening or weekends is sometimes required).
  • Attend professional learning as required.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, Social Media, etc.).
  • Physical expectations:
    • Travel to various communities within the school district.
    • Prepare, set up, and clean up materials and equipment.
    • Carry large or heavy materials and equipment (across parking lots, in buildings and up stairs).
    • Sit at the childrenâ??s level and able to get down on the floor.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Preferably with an Early childhood education or Education Support diploma or rehabilitation program of over one year, or an equivalent combination of training and education.
  • Preferably with training and experience working with young children/pre-schoolers and their families.
  • A valid class 5 driver's license issued by the Province of New Brunswick and own use of transportation are required.
  • Current and previous employers may be contacted as part of your regular screening process.

Salary: In accordance with the collective agreement between CUPE Local 2745 and Treasury Board.

Schedule: 12-Month position. Monday to Friday, 36.25 hours. Some work outside of these hours may be required.
