The employees of The department of EECD develop programs and offer services that support parents and educators and encourage learners from birth to 20 years old, to achieve lasting and transferable learning that will serve them throughout their lives.

What you will do:
Reporting to the Director of the Autism Learning Partnership, the successful candidate will be responsible for assessing the functional abilities of learners in the Francophone education sector in the areas of orientation & mobility and, potentially, in their development and daily living activities.

As a rehabilitation professional, they will identify and implement appropriate interventions to support skill development across the different areas of the Extended Core Curriculum, a specialized intervention program for children and students with visual impairments, including:
• Orientation and mobility
• Sensory development
• Independence in daily living activities
They will work closely with parents, specialist teachers for children and students with visual impairments, and school staff to ensure a collaborative and individualized approach.
• Conduct functional assessments to identify children's needs and propose appropriate intervention strategies.
• Design and implement individualized and group interventions aimed at promoting children's independence and active participation in their environments.
• Develop interventions to support the acquisition of body, spatial, and environmental concepts.
• Assess, provide, and teach the use of the white cane, identification cane, or mobility aid cane (if certified as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist).
• Provide recommendations to improve the visual accessibility of school and community environments to maximize the autonomy and safety of learners with visual impairments.
• Document interventions and ensure thorough follow-up.
• Deliver services in various settings (home, early learning centers, school, community).
• Organize and lead awareness activities for school and community audiences.
• Stay informed about best practices in visual impairment support.

Your attitude, skills and interests are just as important as your area of study. We are looking for diverse backgrounds that bring a combination of the following:

Required Competencies:

  • Hold a Master's degree in Occupational Therapy with 5 years of experience.
  • Be a member in good standing with the New Brunswick Association of Occupational Therapists
  • Be a member of the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists
  • 2 years of experience in community pediatrics
  • Be open to receiving training in the field of visual impairment.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends occasionally.

Written and spoken competence in French and spoken competence in English is required. Please state your language capability.

Nice to have:

  • Hold a certification recognized by the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation & Education Professionals (ACVREP) as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist or in another field related to visual impairment, which is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently in a mobile work environment.

Wage:
Pay Band 6 - $76,622 – $101,920 annually.

Work environment:

  • Office location: 250 King Street, Fredericton
  • Possibility of remote work within New Brunswick
  • Standard hours of work: Monday - Friday, 8:15-4:30
