The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Specialist, Engineer Electrical Instrumentation & Controls (EI&C) to join our Copper Cliff Smelter Complex team in Sudbury, ON. This is an onsite position.

This is a permanent position, typically working a Monday to Friday dayshift schedule.

As a Specialist, Engineer EI&C you will be responsible for coordinating overall EI&C engineering matters across all projects in the portfolio. This includes the review of and recommendations regarding all engineering solutions. The projects include FEL 1, FEL 2, and FEL 3 studies as well as supporting execution. They are responsible to contribute to their projects and ensure they are finalized within scope, cost, and schedule baselines, while ensuring the projects are delivered within the safety and quality objectives agreed for the project.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Accountable for achieving zero harm by participating in the design of safe working systems, site inspections and safety interactions in their project area and ensuring all follow-up actions are carried out.
  • Review proposed infrastructure solutions to confirm general conformance with related regulations, policies, standards and guidelines. Provide feedback on any gaps or opportunities to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Coordinates the engineering input including in project review for the project tollgate/maturity assessments and ensures follow-up actions are completed.
  • Responsible for review and delivery of engineering for the FEL 1 and FEL 2 studies as agreed by the Manager, Project Engineering taking into consideration the full project lifecycle.
  • Coordinates and ensures compliance to project procedures including the management of project documentation and ensuring these are received, reviewed, commented, responded, and incorporated in project archives.
  • Coordinates the outputs of their assigned project team or teams in line with the detailed scope, cost, and schedule control baselines and manages any project changes in terms of this agreed baseline.
  • Ensures scope forecast of cost and schedule is updated as prescribed by the project requirements.

About You

Education:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineer.
  • P. Eng, in Electrical Engineer or home country equivalent is preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience.
  • Experience in managing FEL 1/2/3 level studies.
  • Operational experience in extractive or infrastructure industries, with a broad network with specialized experts and associates in the mining business and infrastructure fields.
  • Sustaining capital execution experience.
  • Substantial experience working onsite in an underground, open pit and processing environment.
  • It will also be beneficial if you have:
    • Experience with playing a key role in pre-feasibility and feasibility studies.
    • Experience with brownfield projects, operations or maintenance roles.
    • Experience with various commodities.
    • Knowledge of project delivery system SPE deliverables.
    • PMP qualification

Skills:

  • A strong understanding of underground and surface equipment requirements to support production operations.
  • Demonstrated sound written and verbal communication skills. Able to write clear and concise reports and presentation materials. Possess effective communication and interpersonal skills within multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Good communication and organization skills.
  • Ability to evaluate alternative options and recommend preferred solution while outlining benefits and downside risks.
  • Ability to work with various groups and gain alignment.
  • Strong technical competence in your respective discipline.
