The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Sr. Safety Coordinator to join our Health, Safety and Operational Risk team in Thompson, Manitoba. This is a permanent position.

Requirements & Accountabilities:

  • Improve and promote safety programs by compiling data, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with legislation.
  • Advise senior management on policies and offer technical support in interpreting legislation, company policies, and procedures.
  • Formulate implementation plans for new safety management systems and mentor employees on these systems.
  • Manage HSER Committees, Supervisors, and Worker Safety Representatives, and liaise with third-party medical service providers for Return-to-Work processes.
  • Develop strategies and implement improvements based on audits, incidents, and investigations to enhance safety programs.
  • Share and format department safety-related information, and facilitate procedural changes.

About You

Education:

A minimum of a grade 12 (or equivalent) education with previous industrial experience in a related field or a post-secondary Diploma/Certificate from a certified program in a related field.

Experience:

3-4 years of experience required

Licensed Safety professional preferred

Skills:

  • Demonstrates strong initiative, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively without extensive supervision.
  • Maintains an excellent safety record and can handle occasional exposure to temperature extremes, moving machinery, and noise.
  • Exhibits strong teamwork and English communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office, particularly Excel, and can stand and sit for long periods with some opportunity to move about.
