The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Specialist Engineer, Infrastructure to join our Mines Technical Services team at Totten Mine in Sudbury, ON. This is an onsite position.

This is a permanent position, typically working a Monday to Friday dayshift schedule.

As a Specialist Engineer, Infrastructure you will work with mine operations and technical disciplines to make sure that our mines have the required infrastructure/mine systems to achieve the long term mine plans. The successful candidates will be responsible to drive transformation and ensure the mine infrastructure systems are developed and operated in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Anticipate and propose solutions to current and potential infrastructure risks.
  • Modelling/estimating the capacities of the mine infrastructure systems (dewatering, ventilation, backfill, air/water) and ensure they can meet the forecasted demand of the 5 Year Mine Plan (5YP) and Life of Mine Plan (LoMP)
  • Identify opportunities to optimize existing mining footprint. i.e. Decommission infrastructure and systems and optimize for Capex and Opex.
  • Identify, scope and cost mining infrastructure systems and annual capital development construction to achieve 5YP and LOMP targets.
  • Develop Capex and Opex profile estimates for infrastructure and mine systems expansions projects.
  • Generate solutions or Lead consulting firms for FEL 1 to FEL 3 engineering of LoMP and 5YP expansion of mining systems and infrastructure.
  • Coordinate the engineering input, including and not limited to: project review for the project tollgate and maturity assessments and ensures follow-up actions are completed.
  • Review proposed infrastructure solutions to confirm general conformance with related regulations, policies, standards, and guidelines.
  • Provide feedback on any gaps or opportunities to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Integrate schedule of infrastructure and systems projects into mine production schedules that support LoMP and the 5-year plan.

About You

Education:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (or equivalent) in appropriate discipline.
  • P. Eng, Chartered Engineer, or home country equivalent.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 11 years engineering experience is required.
  • PMP qualification is an asset.
Skills:
  • Experience with Project Management and managing FEL 1/2/3 level studies.
  • Proficiency with capital cost estimation.
  • Sustaining capital execution experience, especially with leading engineering consulting firms.
  • A strong understanding of underground mining systems and infrastructure.
  • Experience in modelling of mining systems (e.g., ventilation, water, power, backfill, etc.).
  • Substantial experience working onsite.
  • Good communication, and organization skills.
  • Experience in the following areas is beneficial:
    • Pre-feasibility and feasibility studies.
    • Brownfield projects, operations, or maintenance roles.
    • Various commodities.
    • Knowledge of project delivery system SPE deliverables.
