Horizon Health Network in beautiful Saint John, New Brunswick area is looking for a Family Physician to join our team! This role will require a physician who has an interest in women's health and low-risk obstetrics.
The ideal candidate will have experience working within a collaborative environment as a member of an interdisciplinary team to provide safe and quality patient care. Our team is seeking additional members to help staff our Family Medicine Prenatal Clinic and cover shifts on the Birth Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital.
Our collaborative clinic is located at St. Joseph's Hospital in the city's center. It began in 2002 and has been run by a group of local family physicians and nurses. It is an integral access point to the health care system for pregnant individuals in our area. Our clinic sees a large volume of immigrant and refugee patients as well as local individuals without a primary care provider. We also accept referrals from nurse practitioners and physicians in the area who do not provide prenatal care.
Our physicians also cover shifts on the Birth Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital, where they perform patient assessments, provide intrapartum care, and attend the deliveries of our patients. We work collaboratively with our obstetricians, who provide consultation and support when required. As family medicine low risk obstetrical providers, we also act as surgical assist for caesarean sections.

Who you are
You have a worked as a Family Medicine Physician for a minimum of 1 year.
You possess a Medical Degree from a recognized medical school and postgraduate studies (residency) in Family Medicine.
You hold a CFPC designation
You have a keen interest in women's health and low-risk obstetrics.
You must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick.
The Department requires that members be a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
Written and spoken competence in English is required at an advanced level. Bilingual skills would be considered an asset.
What you will do
- Perform clinical duties including but not restricted to seeing and assessing both scheduled and unscheduled patients for routine health and illness care, prescribing treatment, consults, referral to other healthcare professionals as required and appropriate follow-up to patients across the lifespan.
- In-patient care which may include hospitalist care.
- Provide family-centered primary care by considering risk factors (environmental, social, psychological and medical) in a manner which can be understood by the patient, and when applicable, his/her family.
- Low risk prenatal and obstetrical care. This includes patient-centered contraceptive planning, antenatal care, assessing patients presenting to the birth unit, providing intrapartum care/vaginal deliveries of low-risk patients, assisting obstetrician colleagues with c-sections, and proving post-partum care.
- Participate in the use of departmental and corporate evidence-based rules of practice to ensure that expected standards of care are achieved.
- Participate in medical practice that is compatible with the Health Authority's mission, values and strategic directions.
- Participate in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of treatment, education, counseling and health promotion programs, disease and injury prevention and chronic disease management programs and services for individuals, families and the community.
- Participate in after hours on-call coverage in coordination with other medical staff ensuring provisions are made for continual coverage of patient caseload during times when you are absent from your practice.
Other professional medical work falling within the scope of practice that may arise by circumstance may be assigned by the Head of the Department of Family Medicine, Local Chief of Staff, Medical Director - Saint John and/or Vice President of Medical Affairs in conversation with the Physician.
Remuneration
Fee for Service: Standard remuneration is Fee-for-Service which is a direct compensation between the physician and Medicare of New Brunswick. On call remuneration is provided. No source deductions can be provided.
