Job Summary

The Centre for Nursing Studies (CNS) is the largest nursing school in Newfoundland and Labrador. Programs offered include a four-year BScN (Collaborative) Program and a LPN Bridging option, offered in partnership with Memorial University Faculty of Nursing and Western Regional School of Nursing, a five-semester Practical Nursing Program, Re-entry Programs for RNs and LPNs, an IEN Bridging Program, other international nursing initiatives, and Post-Basic Courses/Programs for RNs and LPNs.

Applications are invited for the temporary full-time position of Nursing Instructor I (NS-30). The successful applicant will facilitate clinical teaching of nursing students in adult acute care medical-surgical practice settings, which involves the planning, implementation, and evaluation of clinical courses in all programs offered by the CNS. The successful applicant may also develop, deliver, and evaluate instructional labs offered in any CNS program. The successful applicant may also be assigned to teach theory courses in the Practical Nursing program.

The position responsibilities include: primary responsibility will be clinical teaching and evaluation of students in adult acute care medical-surgical practice settings; preparing, delivering, and evaluating instructional labs; theory teaching in the Practical Nursing program, as necessary; student remedial learning activities and FIT Testing; faculty development; participation on CNS and other relevant committees; and contribution to professional activities. Constantly moves/lifts up to 10 lbs., regularly moves/lifts up to 25 lbs. and occasionally is required to restrain/reposition/move/lift up to 30 lbs. Pushes/pulls up to medium force.
Constantly stands/walks and works in awkward or cramped positions to assist with procedures.
Constantly uses fine finger/precision, auditory, sensory and visual concentration to provide and conduct risk assessments, observe/monitor patients, to complete documents, follow directions, administer medications, etc.
May be subject to time pressures/deadlines and subject to lack of control over work pace.

Qualifications

Graduation from an approved/recognized post-secondary nursing education program with a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing.

A current practicing license with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CRNNL).

A minimum of three years experience within the last five working as a nurse in an adult acute care medical-surgical practice area with at least one year of experience either as a teacher of entry-level or formal post-basic nursing education programs, which include lab and clinical, or as an adult educator. This would include experience with adult education course design, development, and evaluation in a health care setting.
The successful applicant must have:

Demonstrated knowledge of instructional development, delivery and evaluation and demonstrated clinical expertise.

Capable of providing strong and comprehensive clinical support, training and mentorship to students.
Exhibit strong oral and written communication skills as demonstrated by presentations, facilitations and report-writing; be self-motivated and able to work both collaboratively and with a high degree of independence and initiative.

Demonstrate effective time-management skills and the ability to prioritize; possess proven leadership skills; be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
