The Cancer Care Program offers Radiation Therapy in St. John’s and Corner Brook.
The Opportunity
The future workforce for qualified Radiation Therapists is growing and employment opportunities are anticipated at Cancer Care in Corner Brook and St. John’s locations.
Radiation therapy is the treatment of cancer and other diseases using radiation therapy. Radiation Therapists work closely with doctors, medical physicists, nurses, and other members of the health care team. They navigate highly technical equipment while delivering empathetic and patient-centered care. Radiation Therapists use advanced computer systems and radiation therapy equipment to design and implement treatment plans and deliver radiation treatment.
Provincial Cancer Care Program of NL Health Services has partnered with The Michener Institute of Education at UHN/University of Toronto in Toronto Ontario, to place qualifying students from Newfoundland and Labrador in the Radiation Therapy Program. Funding support for tuition and books may be available if a student is willing to sign a service commitment agreement to work in the Cancer Care Program in Newfoundland and Labrador upon graduation. Applicants must apply and meet the school admission requirements for the Radiation Therapy program on their own merit. Entrance requirements and fees are outlined on Michener's website. Applicants to the Radiation Therapy program must possess the following qualifications:
Minimum of 1 year of university education, with successful completion of one single-semester course in each of the following pre-requisite subjects: Biology, Mathematics, Physics, Social Science.A minimum cumulative grade point average of B-. Financial Assistance
To support the increased demand opportunities are available for financial assistance to complete the Radiation Therapy program at the Michener Institute of Education at UHN/University of Toronto. Funding will be provided for tuition and books. A return-in-service agreement to work in Cancer Care will be required and the length of the return-in-service will depend on the total amount of funding provided. The service obligation will begin once the applicant has successfully completed the certification exam and started working in the role.
