DUTIES

Reporting to the Technical Director of the School of Fine Arts, the Visual Arts Studio Assistant II will have primary responsibilities in the area of print and print media; as well as providing assistance in other areas of the Visual Arts Program, such as photography, digital applications and the Gallery. The position plays a critical role in the delivery of the Visual Arts course curriculum by offering technical assistance to Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and Master of Fine Arts (MFA) students, as well as faculty, outside of class time. Printmaking responsibilities include, but are not limited to, ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of the print studio facilities, including supervising the printmaking darkroom; providing support in the four traditional print making disciplines: intaglio, lithography, relief and water-based screen printing; maintaining studio inventory and budget tally; maintaining studio health & safety and cleanliness standards; and supervising students and student employees as required. Duties related to print media or digital include maintaining the digital inkjet printers and other Time-Based Studio equipment; assisting students and faculty with output and maintaining studio health & safety and cleanliness standards. Responsibilities associated with photography include, but are not limited to, ordering supplies; tool and darkroom equipment maintenance; managing inventory and budget records; mixing of photographic chemicals; and ensuring studio health & safety and cleanliness standards are met. As time and program priorities allow, the incumbent will provide studio support to faculty and visiting artists, as well as collaborate with other Visual Arts and School of Fine Arts employees across a range of School of Fine Arts projects. Additional duties include working in conjunction with The Grenfell Campus Gallery to assist with framing and matting two-dimensional work; assisting with the production and output of promotional materials; and preforming other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience (3-5 years) in studio with a primary focus in printmaking; graduation with an undergraduate degree in fine arts or a related discipline is required; or an equivalent combination of experience and training will be considered. Knowledge of health and safety practices is essential for this role. Demonstrated proficiency in working with tools and mechanical processes, is preferred, coupled with a strong interest in exploring new products and materials.

SALARY $61,099- $71,679 per annum (CUPE Local 1615)
