Oceanex is a dynamic organization and may expand its Marine Fleet Team in the coming months. Specifically, Oceanex is looking to gauge interest from potential candidates for the role of Marine Fleet Manager. The Marine Fleet Manager's role is to ensure that our vessels are available to service the needs of the business efficiently, effectively, and safely.

Reporting to the VP - Marine Fleet Operations, the Marine Fleet Manager would be responsible for the overall safe and efficient operation and long-term planning of marine assets. This position would contribute to Company management functions, while managing technical and operational staff within the Vessel Management Department. Responsibilities include vessel maintenance, dry docks, crewing, training and labour relations, compliance, health and safety, ISO/ISM, marine operations budgeting, and assisting with a fleet renewal program.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Manage the fleet in accordance with Company policies;
  • Oversee operations management including but not limited to fleet performance, incident review, repair and maintenance, planned maintenance systems, dry docking, capital expenditure and upgrading programs;
  • Oversee crew management, training programs and marine related labour relations;
  • Assist HSEQ Manager in continuous improvement of the Company's Safety Management System (SMS) to meet the requirements of the ISM Code;
  • Implement the Company's marine environmental initiatives and policies;
  • Assist VP - Marine Fleet Operations with long term planning, vessel operations budgeting, fleet renewal and new building projects;
  • Ensure compliance with standards set by national and international regulatory authorities;
  • Liaise with government agencies and industry associations;
  • Develop departmental budget and exercise duties within approved annual budget;
  • Coordinate a cost-efficient distribution of tasks between vessel management personnel;
  • Conduct vessel visits and ensure that a well-defined vessel attendance/assessment program for shore-based vessel management personnel is maintained;
  • Approve the hiring, re-hiring, promotion, demotion, transfer, end of probationary period, resignation, lay-off and/or discharge of Oceanex vessel operational personnel;
  • Prepare reports and documentation for VP - Marine Fleet Operations, as required; and
  • Perform other duties and special projects, as assigned by VP - Marine Fleet Operations.

Qualifications

  • University degree or equivalent in a marine-related area of study and 5 years of Chief Engineer experience or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in a shore-based management position in vessel operations;
  • Experience in strategic planning;
  • Familiarity with governing bodies and relevant marine industry legislation;
  • Computer literate, with proficiency in the Microsoft suite of products.

Other considerations

  • Language of work: English
  • Compensation is in the range of $175,000 to $215,000 plus an incentive plan subject to change depending on qualifications and experience of the candidate.
