Contributes to the overall success of the Risk Collections Oversight Unit in International Banking ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. Contributes to the profitability of the Bank through the development and implementation of best-in-class collection practices and procedures regarding segmentation strategies, treatment strategies, Loss Mitigation Tools, technology, lead indicators and monitoring methodologies, targeting to improve debt recovery while gaining operational efficiencies and continuously enhancing customer experience and ensuring alignment with standards defined in the Global Collections Policy for International Retail Credit. The Senior Manager works with retail credit risk departments across International Banking to analyze and report on the performance of portfolios and promote the implementation of initiatives that allows the accomplishment of Business goals.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Analyse and report on the performance of portfolios, providing relevant insights to Senior Management and promote / monitor the implementation of initiatives that allows to tackle any deviation.
  • Ensure all credit risks proposals associated with collections are understood and quantified with effective management reporting, across all components of collections (People, Data, Process, Technology, Strategy, Control Quality and Vendor Management) for International Banking.
  • Lead GRM initiatives to strengthen Collections and Recoveries risk management, operational effectiveness / efficiency, and lead continuous improvement of all components from credit risk perspective, leveraging risk technology, by working within the minimum standards defined in the global collections policy and by remaining aware of industry trends and opportunities.
  • Leverage strategic influencing skills to provide counsel to IB Risk Collections units relating to collections pillars, with particular attention to portfolio needs and current capabilities, promoting best practices and knowledge sharing across all sites.
  • Ensure IB Risk Collections units are operating within established compliance/governance guidelines and if needed support the definition and implementation of corrective actions to rectify collection issues noted in Internal/External Audits.
  • Analyze and report regularly providing relevant insights on the performance of high impact collection initiatives / strategies deployed.
  • Work with other departments in International Banking and make recommendations on improvement on joint programs impacting International Retail Collection practices, policies, procedures, systems, strategies, and reporting.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Undergraduate degree or higher required. Degree in statistics, engineering, business, economics or finance preferred
  • 5+ years in credit risk management or related field with demonstrated experience in collections
  • 5+ years in data management and analytics roles
  • 3+ years in Project Management roles
  • 2+ years leading people
  • High level of speaking and writing in Spanish
  • Strong knowledge of Retail and Small Business Credit products
  • Strong knowledge of Excel and Power Point
  • Strong knowledge in the use of SAS/Enterprise Miner, Angoss, Phyton, R or similar statistical software including the ability to apply advanced statistical techniques
  • Strong knowledge of TRIAD or similar account management systems
  • Strong knowledge of collections systems (workflows, dialer, customer management)
  • Strong knowledge of debt recovery legislation, policies, practices across all markets
  • Good knowledge in the use and development of behavior scores, custom scores, credit bureau scores, and their respective validation process
  • Strong strategic influencing, relationship management and negotiation skills
  • Strong project management disciplines to prioritize, manage and implement a variety of competing initiatives, on a concurrent or staggered basis
  • High level of autonomy required in assessing day-to-day issues in context of stakeholder and constantly makes decisions of a non-routine nature, many without precedent
