Salary Range: $139,438.00 to $161,122.00 per annum

Responsibilities

NBCC is seeking an Executive Director, Finance, the Senior Financial leader within the organization, to provide strategic financial leadership, oversee financial operations, and drive data-informed decision-making across the College. Reporting to the President & CEO, a member of the Senior Executive Team, and working closely with the Board of Governors, this role is accountable for leading a finance team that includes a Director of Finance and a portfolio of Procurement, Accounts Receivables, Budgeting and Reporting ensuring financial stability and sustainability.

This Executive Director, Finance will be responsible for overseeing a budget of $126 million, ensuring effective allocation of resources to achieve the College's strategic goals and maintaining fiscal health.

This role is ideal for a leader who thrives on scenario planning and enjoys advising and partnering at the executive level, providing forward-thinking financial insights as the College navigates an increasingly complex and challenging industry landscape. The initial focus of this role will be establishing a sustainable balance between ongoing revenues, expenses and increased reserves, safeguarding the College against economic uncertainties and enabling future growth.

Financial Leadership & Strategy:

  • Lead the development and execution of NBCC's financial strategy, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and sector trends.
  • Provide executive leadership to the finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations, audit recommendations, and risk management practices while maintaining fiscal integrity.
  • Deliver timely, accurate, and data-driven financial insights to support executive and Board-level decision-making.
  • Conduct a full-scale review of the finance department, assessing its structure, processes, and efficiencies to ensure it is well-positioned for the future.

Budgeting, Planning & Scenario Analysis:

  • Oversee the development and implementation of NBCC's annual budget, long-term financial plans, and forecasting processes.
  • Lead scenario planning efforts to prepare the College for various financial contingencies and industry shifts.
  • Enhance program costing methodologies and improve financial reporting to drive operational efficiencies.
  • Support cross-functional teams in accessing and interpreting financial data to enable informed decision-making.
  • Ensure robust financial oversight, including quarterly and annual financial reporting, audited financial statements, and compliance with financial governance requirements.

Governance & Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Serve as a key advisor to the President & CEO and Board of Governors on financial matters.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with government partners, funding agencies, and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure transparency and clarity in financial performance and strategy.
  • Oversee and manage internal audit functions along with external audits of financial statements to ensure effective risk management, compliance, and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure robust financial oversight, including quarterly and annual financial reporting, audited financial statements, and compliance with financial governance requirements.

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) & Operational Improvements:

  • Support the finance team and broader College community in the transition to the Government of New Brunswick's Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
  • Optimize financial systems, policies, and internal controls to align with best practices and new technological capabilities.
  • Lead the organization through this college wide transformation.
Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • CPA designation required.
  • Proven executive leadership experience in finance, ideally within education, government, or non-profit sectors.
  • Demonstrated success in financial strategy, risk management, and leading high-performing teams.

Leadership & Skills:

  • Strong people leader with a focus on team development and organizational impact.
  • Skilled in financial planning, budgeting, and data analytics to support strategic decision-making.
  • Highly analytical and adept leading scenario planning, with the ability to navigate financial uncertainty and provide proactive guidance.
  • Fostering financial equity, inclusive decision-making, or leading with an equity lens.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly.
  • Experience working with a Board, including financial reporting, strategic discussions, and governance oversight.
