Demands, duties, qualifications
Job Summary
This position operates high pressure steam plants and auxiliary equipment such as steam boilers, hydronic boilers, air handling units, cooling systems, related system controls, heat exchangers, chillers, medical gas systems, compressed air systems, emergency power systems, uninterruptible power supply systems, and reverse osmosis system. The Trades Worker II performs regular checks and verifies correct operation of safety controls for systems described. Performs demand and preventative maintenance on boilers and other equipment/systems as needed. Operates various power tools. Calibrates equipment/machinery. Records and interprets readings of all plant equipment and various systems; maintains records. Performs chemical tests on water systems for boilers and other equipment. Tests Emergency Power System. Schedules and prepares for annual inspection and cleaning of high-pressure steam boilers, hot water tanks, motors and pumps. Provides training to students and new employees. The Trades Worker II works independently on shift and is responsible for the plant and other assigned equipment/systems.

Job Qualifications
Successful completion of a high school diploma or equivalent.
A valid fourth (4th) Class Power Engineer's Certificate as issued by the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador is required.
Experience in Power Engineering is preferred.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
