The Department of Finance is a group of approximately 65 people who lead, direct, and develop strategic and operational planning for the university's financial services, accounting & reporting, investing, financing, procurement, payroll, research accounting and budgeting administration.

Salary Range: $101,989 - $139,000 per annum
YOUR FOCUS
Reporting to the Associate Vice-President of Finance & Comptroller, this position will play an instrumental role in the ongoing development of a modernized and integrated Finance department.
- Lead a group of professionals in their support of core university departments. This will include meeting with department leads to determine their individual needs and engage other units within Finance to ensure consistency in support and financial management.
- Create detailed work plans identifying KPIs, managing performance, mentoring the team to ensure professional growth. Develop tailored educational plans as needed.
- In collaboration with the AVP, establish an internal audit plan based on key risk areas and resources.
- Identify and evaluate key financial risks and recommend improvements to mitigate them.
- As required, develop, prepare and present reports for the Audit Committee and the Board of Governors.
- Manage the financial components of the University's fringe benefits program. This will include attendance at the Fringe Benefits Review Committee and sub-committee meetings to provide directives, advice, recommendations and guidance on the use of the self insurance reserves and on the funding policy. As well, it will include working with colleagues in Resource Planning & Budgeting, People & Culture and Payroll to ensure the budgets reflect the estimated cost of the fringe benefits program, and that the accounting transactions match the intent of the program, reserve support, withholdings, etc.
- Lead and support IT initiatives. This will involve understanding the needs, working with Information Technology Services to identify possible solutions, and providing guidance and support throughout implementation.
- Collaborate with the other Finance units to identify and prioritize modernization projects, including policy modernization.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field.
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation.
- 7-10 years of experience in progressive accounting, audit or finance experience.
- Proven leadership and management skills with 5 years' experience leading a diverse team within a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.
- Experience managing a large, complex ERP.
- This is a bi-campus position, some travel will be required between Fredericton and Saint John.
Additional Strengths:
- Experience in the post-secondary education sector and an academic research environment is considered an asset.
- Advanced Excel user.
- Six sigma Green belt or Black Belt certification is considered an asset.
