Purpose

  • Significantly contributes to the success of a large-scale transformation program across Retail Credit Risk International Banking to strengthen risk management, governance, and controls, enhance operational efficiency, and support Global Risk Management's (GRM) strategic priorities.
  • Drives strategic change through supporting the development and implementation of a Transformation roadmap for Retail Credit Risk International Banking, the optimization of policies and processes, and through leadership of cross-functional initiatives.
  • Ensures that goals, plans, and initiatives are effectively executed in alignment with the team's business strategies and objectives. Additionally, the Director ensures that all activities are conducted in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Primarily, support the design, development, and implementation of the Transformation roadmap for RCR International Banking.
  • Collaborate closely with the RCR Leadership Team, and partners in the GRM Transformation Office and other GRM functions.
  • Lead the execution of transformation initiatives for International Banking, ensuring prudent risk management, and alignment with regulatory requirements and business objectives. Identify and recommend risk management strategies, enhanced governance, processes and tools for implementation across RCR.
  • Drive organizational effectiveness and efficiencies through the review of risk management activities, interaction models, and other processes. Streamline processes and identify opportunities to leverage automation, AI, data & analytics and other tools to strengthen controls, improve the employee experience, and increase operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership across GRM, business lines, Technology, Finance, HR and control functions to align on strategic transformation goals.
  • Lead effective communication and change management to support successful adoption of the program across RCR and key stakeholders. Synthesizes findings and presents clear recommendations and implementation plans to ensure impactful project outcomes.
  • Contribute to consistent and effective financial management and program reporting to ensure informed and cost-effective decisions.
  • Define and monitor KPIs, potential risks, and other metrics to measure the success of the transformation program, providing program reporting to senior executives as appropriate.
  • Support the Head, Retail Credit Risk Transformation, and the SVP, Retail Credit Risk IB with special projects, as assigned.
  • Ensure timely engagement with relevant groups (e.g., within GRM, Finance, HR, Executive Support), as determined by implications of the change being introduced by transformation/modernization initiatives.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Business degree required; Masters degree preferred.
  • 5-10 years of banking and industry experience at a senior management level, ideally within risk management functions
  • Demonstrable success in coordinating large-scale transformation initiatives, and managing complex projects, involving geographically and functionally diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to translate vision and strategic priorities into operational and financial realities.
  • Strong analytical skills, with experience using data to drive decision-making and process improvements.
  • Ability to promote innovative ideas and accept the risks that are required to lead change.
  • Strategic influencing and negotiating skills to effectively persuade and influence peers and senior management.
  • Ability to foster and cultivate business opportunities and partnerships and attract and retain high performing talent
  • Bilingualism required (English/Spanish); excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to succinctly convey information to senior management in both languages
  • Very strong communication and influencing skills in English and Spanish. Expected to be the designate for the Head, Retail Credit Transformation.
  • Close partnership with multiple stakeholders across GRM (all levels), GRM Transformation Office, Finance and HR
  • GRM-wide initiatives potentially interacting with Canadian and International teams across multiple countries and jurisdictions
  • Support governance and delivery of strategic programs across Retail Credit Risk (and support the rest of GRM)
