Requirements:

  • Highschool diploma required.
  • Valid NB Class 5 drivers license required.
  • Work on a scheduled shift basis involving daytime, evening, weekend, and holidays hours will be required
  • Experience in facility operations and maintenance along with strong interpersonal skills
  • Relative experience in janitorial/housekeeping services and general maintenance
  • An equivalent combination of relevant experience and academic training may also be considered

As a Maintenance Worker I with the Building Services Division you will be a vital member of the team performing maintenance within the City of Fredericton's recreational sports facilities, providing resources for special events, performing ice rink/arena maintenance, as well as snow removal as required. Work on a scheduled shift basis involving daytime, evening, weekend, and holidays is a requirement throughout the year. The successful candidate will be required to apply skills in facility operations, general maintenance, and equipment operation.

What You'll Do:

  • Perform tasks required for arena maintenance including janitorial, installation and removal of ice, ice maintenance, board maintenance, preventative maintenance, painting, and equipment repairs and maintenance
  • Perform tasks associated with aquatics operations including maintaining water quality, janitorial, preventative maintenance, painting, and general pool maintenance
  • May involve work placement within the department for sports field maintenance depending on seasonal needs
  • Maintain Logbooks in associated work area
  • Responsible for opening and closing of facilities
  • Operate and maintain equipment as required for the job function
  • Drive vehicles and operate any other equipment connected with work assignments
  • Monitor and adjust mechanical controls and equipment
  • Ability to work flexible schedules and shifts on evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Perform physical labour tasks such as lifting, carrying, and operation of various hand tools
  • Equipment operations such as tractors, ice edgers, ice-resurfacer, lawn care equipment and snow removal equipment
  • Perform Rink maintenance to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all users
  • Janitorial duties as required
  • Interact with the public and other municipal staff as required
  • Required to work in all weather conditions
  • Other duties may be assigned as required

  • Awareness of New Brunswick Occupational Health and Safety. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safe work habits to work in a busy municipal environment
  • Valid Class V NB drivers license.Class 3 with E endorsement considered an asset.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees (team player) and the public
  • Physical strength and agility sufficient to do strenuous laboring tasks under varying weather conditions
  • Knowledge of the tools, equipment, methods and materials used
  • Diploma in a recognized trade in the focus of buildings
  • Ability to speak in both official languages would be considered an asset
