Fortis Inc. (FTS/NYSE: FTS) has an exciting opportunity to join its team as a Public Policy Analyst.

We are inviting applications from Government Relations and Public Policy professionals who can thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic workplace. Reporting to the Vice President, Communications and Government Relations, the successful candidate will be an integral Communications and Government Relations team member.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop an understanding of the impacts of Canadian and United States' energy, climate, and broader business policies on Fortis and its subsidiaries.
  • Monitor and analyze government programs, legislation, and public policy activities.
  • Prepare internal briefing notes and other communications materials to ensure awareness of public policy developments.
  • Develop and track government relations plans and activities that help reach our energy, climate, and business goals.
  • Prepare policy position papers in response to federal government and industry consultation processes.
  • Liaise with and coordinate government relations efforts with subsidiary companies, including government relations, regulatory, public policy, and communications teams.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Critical thinker with strong analytical, research, and writing skills.
  • Strong knowledge of the Government of Canada and the United States Government and related decision-making processes.
  • Understanding of the role of industry regulators and ability to monitor regulatory developments.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work across subsidiary companies, synthesizing public policy information, and creating position statements.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

Education and Experience:

  • A post-secondary business, public administration, political science, or communications degree with 5-7 years of experience.
  • Experience in the energy and public sectors is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of the interplay between provincial, state, and federal governments, as well as the roles and decision-making processes of governments.
  • Exceptional analytical and research skills.
