Meridia Recruitment Solutions is pleased to partner with GEMTEC in recruiting an Intermediate or Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join their growing team in Moncton. As the successful candidate, you will have the opportunity to become GEMTEC's geotechnical lead in Moncton, which is one of GEMTEC's core markets in Atlantic Canada.
Role Description
As an Intermediate or Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will work with a diverse team of professionals to coordinate and manage geotechnical programs, including field investigations, geotechnical analysis and design, and report preparation for highways, roads, bridges, buildings, railways, marine and municipal infrastructure, land development, geotechnical instrumentation, mines, and dams.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing technical expertise on a wide variety of geotechnical projects; including shallow and deep foundations, retaining structures, embankment dams, roadway embankments, railways, excavation support systems, tunnels, trenchless construction, staged embankment construction, and ground improvement methods.
- Leading and/or assisting with project management functions, including proposal preparation, budget estimation, scheduling, scope management, project summary report preparation, maintaining quality throughout the project, and implementing improvements.
- Providing senior review and professional authentication of memos, reports, drawings, and other engineering documents.
- Encouraging the professional development of your team through effective mentorship and coaching.
- Working collaboratively with other GEMTEC offices, particularly for larger and multi-disciplinary assignments.
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of existing and emerging regulatory requirements and best practices.
- Adhering to health and safety protocols, promoting a safe working environment.
- Assisting with multi-disciplinary infrastructure and heavy civil construction projects as required.
Qualifications
As the ideal candidate, you have strong experience across a wide variety of geotechnical projects. This may include, but is not limited to, geotechnical analysis and design for buildings, roads, bridges, dams, retaining structures, linear infrastructure, and tunnelling. You have excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational abilities, and the capacity to manage and prioritize multiple assignments simultaneously, ensuring the delivery of quality work on time and within budget.
Your qualifications include:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Geotechnical or Geological Engineering from a recognized university. A post-graduate degree (Master's or Doctorate) is considered an asset.
- 5+ years of post-graduate experience in geotechnical engineering (preferably in a consulting engineering environment).
- Registered as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists New Brunswick, or the ability to register.
- Experience with geotechnical software applications for slope stability, seepage and settlement, lateral pile analysis, seismic design, and finite element modelling (Rocscience, Geostudio, etc) would be an asset.
- Demonstrated experience designing, managing and interpreting geotechnical investigations and quality control/quality assurance earthworks/materials programs, and the ability to make informed decisions regarding intrusive and non-intrusive field investigations, basic and advanced laboratory testing, and material characterization.
- Possess enthusiasm and drive for maintaining high standards of quality, communication and collaboration in a dynamic team environment.
- Ability and interest in undertaking occasional fieldwork and travel, in a range of weather conditions, including working in remote locations.
- Multi-disciplinary project management experience and project management training/certification (such as PMP designation) considered an asset.
- Bilingual abilities in English and French (verbal, written and reading) considered an asset.
- Must have a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
