Purpose
- Lead, manage and/or execute the Continuous Change Cycle across IB Commercial Banking Credit Risk.
- Responsible for the success of a large-scale transformation program across IB Commercial Banking GRM, to strengthen risk management, governance, and controls, enhance operational efficiency, and support Global Risk Management's (GRM) strategic priorities.
- Implementing technological initiatives within IB Commercial Banking in order to maximize the efficiency of the business unit.
- Supports the Head, IB Commercial Banking Credit Risk, in leading the strategy design, coordination, and implementation of the Modernization plan and supporting subsequent cross-functional initiatives. This includes work directly related to the GRM Transformation Program, and the incumbent is accountable for the delivery of the Transformation Initiatives for Commercial Banking Credit Risk in accordance with the Transformation Management Office (TMO).
- Responsibilities include ensuring that all activities are conducted in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

- Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Maintains Policy, Systems, and Processes up to date and in line with industry's best practices and technological advanced and Regulatory requirements.
- Leads the design, and integrates and executes the implementation of the New Operating Model for IB Commercial Banking Risk, and the Global GRM Transformation Journey, fulfilling the strategic goals of the Transformation Program.
- Specifically,
- Acts as a trusted partner to the GRM Transformation Program and Canadian/IB Commercial Banking Heads offices to help define and review priorities, ensuring they are set up to achieve them.
- Executes outcomes from the external independent review (to strengthen 2nd line oversight), and the GRM Transformation Program.
- Partners with appropriate stakeholders to ensure the maintenance of governance items, to be in line with market practice and regulatory expectations, such as, but not limited to;

- Segment specific Policies and Process reviews
- KPIs for Commercial Banking Risk teams and Risk Appetite Metrics for the segment.

- Facilitates coordination between IB Commercial Banking Risk stakeholders to bridge silos and enable alignment across teams throughout all stages of development and execution; this includes identifying strategic communication opportunities.
- Accountable for project planning and execution activities (e.g. manages working group committees) for each Transformation Initiatives for IB Commercial Banking.
- Provide sign off on business requirements and preparing submission of validation packages for QA and Internal Audit, etc.
- Accountable for communication of project plans, project status, etc. (including SteerCo materials) for each Transformation Initiative for Credit Portfolio Management and adheres to Transformation Office governance practices with support from Transformation Office PM
- Identifies improvement opportunities within IB Commercial Banking Risk and then designs and implements sustainable solutions.
- The role involves enabling technology to support the modernization of commercial credit risk management. This could include implementing new tools and systems to improve efficiency and accuracy in credit risk assessment.
- Provides tracking and management of strategic initiatives within IB Commercial Banking Risk broadly ensuring succinct communication of the strategy, results and lessons learned.
- Ensures timely engagement with relevant groups (e.g., within GRM, Finance, HR, Executive Support), as determined by implications of the change being introduced by transformation initiatives.
- Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
- Champions a high-performance environment and, implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviors; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:
- Business or quantitative degree required; Masters degree preferred.
- 5-10 years of banking and industry experience at a management level, ideally within risk management functions
- Demonstrable success in coordinating Business Banking projects, Business and or Risk roles , and managing functionally diverse stakeholders.
- Proven ability to translate vision and strategic priorities into operational and financial realities.
- Strong analytical skills, with experience using data to drive decision-making and process improvements.
- Ability to promote innovative ideas and accept the risks that are required to lead change.
- Strategic influencing and negotiating skills to effectively persuade and influence peers and senior management.
- Ability to foster and cultivate business opportunities and partnerships and attract and retain high performing talent
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to succinctly convey information to senior management
- Very strong communication and influencing skills. Expected to be the designate for the Head, IB Commercial Banking Risk Transformation.
- Close partnership with multiple stakeholders across GRM (all levels), GRM Transformation Office, Finance and HR
- GRM-wide initiatives potentially interacting with Canadian and International teams across multiple countries and jurisdictions
- Support governance and delivery of strategic programs across IB Commercial Banking Risk (and support the rest of GRM).
- Understands how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
