Job Information and Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Director, Diversity Inclusion and Wellness, the EDI Training and Education Consultant will:
- Develop and implement training materials and resources for the campus community to build greater understanding and awareness of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles through multiple modalities, including but not limited to in-person training, online courses and workshops.
- Develop and deliver presentations and other educational materials to educate members of the SMU community.
- Coordinate and promote EDI awareness, prevention, and education programs, strategies and initiatives on campus.
- Support the planning, development and implementation of diverse EDI initiatives across the university.
- Partner with university departments to foster equity initiatives and create an inclusive environment.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders to promote a supportive and positive atmosphere.
- Collaborating and building relationships internal stakeholder (Campus community) to determine what the EDI training needs are within various departments and working with partners to locate opportunities for training.
Experience and Education Requirements
To be the successful EDI Training and Education Specialist you will have:
- Bachelor's degree in a related discipline
- Minimum five years related experience
- Experience designing, developing and implementing programs and practices that advance equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Knowledge of issues and concerns of historically and systemically marginalized groups; contextual understanding of the dynamics of prejudice and discrimination.
- Advanced content expertise and knowledge of research findings/best practices in the EDI landscape.
- Substantive knowledge of equity, diversity and inclusion principles including systemic discrimination
- Demonstrated ability to creatively engage audiences through presentations or equivalent experience
- Strong communication skills (verbal, non-verbal, written, and listening)
- Experience with workplace equity initiatives an asset
- Experience or relationships with diverse community groups and organizations
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Tools, including strong command of PowerPoint.
- Experience in a post-secondary environment is an asset.
