The Design Engineering Department is seeking two Simulator Process Modelers and two Simulator Specialists to improve the overall reliability of the PLNGS full-scope training simulator. The Simulator Design group is responsible for maintaining hardware and developing modeling software for the full-scope nuclear simulator used to train and certify licensed personnel.
Simulator Process Modeler key functions include:
- Develop simulator modeling changes to reflect plant modification
- Work with the Simulator team and Simulator instructors to identify and resolve simulator modeling software deficiencies
- Perform other simulator modeling related work, conduct work reviews and perform testing to improve simulator fidelity and reliability.
Our ideal teammate will have:
- A Bachelor of Science or Applied Science in Engineering - Chemical, Mechanical or Nuclear
One year of experience:
- Operating, maintaining and modifying a nuclear training simulator
- Knowledge in CANDU nuclear plant systems
Two years of experience:
- Programming in C/C++ or FORTRAN
- Using and developing high fidelity scientific computation software (e.g. RELAP5)
Knowledge of Thermal hydraulics and fluid dynamics
Simulator Hardware Specialist key functions include:
- Apply simulator hardware modifications to reflect plant modifications
- Work with the Simulator team and the Simulator instructors to identify and resolve simulator hardware related deficiencies
- Monitor simulator and surrounding IT hardware system health and develop short, medium and long-term strategies for hardware reliability.
Our ideal teammate will have:
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or Computer Science (hardware focus)
One year of experience:
- Conducting system health monitoring
- Interpreting station design modifications and developing equivalent simulator modifications
Two years of experience:
- Working with low-voltage electrical systems
- Diagnosing, debugging, and maintaining electrical components
Simulator Software Specialist key functions include:
- Perform administration and maintenance on various simulation related software systems
- Work with IT group to perform simulator surrounding software maintenance and upgrades
- Monitor software health, develop tools to enhance simulator software functionalities, and improve regular task productivity.
Our ideal teammate will have:
- A Bachelor of Science in Computer or Applied Science in Engineering - Electrical or Computer (Software development Focus)
One year of experience:
- Reverse engineering legacy software's
- Maintaining and upgrading development tools
Two years of experience:
- Programming ability in C/C++ and FORTRAN
- System architecture and development
- Configuring and maintaining servers (Linux and Microsoft Windows)

Due to security requirements at Canadian Nuclear facilities, the successful candidate will require a Site Access Security Clearance which includes verification of background information, references, a Criminal Record Name Check and a Canadian Security Intelligence Service security recommendation.
An Eligibility List generated from this competition may be used to fill future vacancies at the same level within a period of up to 12 months.
