The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development is seeking an Assistant Deputy Minister for the Policy, Strategic Planning and Project Management Office (Division) in Fredericton, NB.

What you will do:
As a valued member of senior management and reporting to the two Deputy Ministers of Education and Early Childhood Development, the successful candidate will be responsible for planning future strategic directions of the Department, ensuring that the Department has an appropriate legislative and policy framework in place and also ensuring the Minister and Deputy Ministers of Education and Early Childhood Development have sound research and data on which to base decision making.

The successful candidate will manage, and direct staff organized into three branches:
Policy & Legislative Affairs, Corporate Data Management, and Strategic Alignment/Project Management Office.

They will be accountable for ensuring that key Education and Early Childhood Development partners, stakeholders and the general public have appropriate opportunities for input to departmental initiatives, policy and legislation. As a member of the senior management team, they will also play a key role in ensuring the department is a high-performing organization.

The successful candidate will act as the New Brunswick advisor on Education and Early Childhood Development issues, and have overall responsibility for the administration of privacy, right to information, and public interest disclosure legislation. They will also provide advice and interpretation of legislation and policy to Superintendents and District Education Councils.

Your attitude, skills and interests are just as important as your area of study. We are looking for diverse backgrounds that bring a combination of the following:

Need to have:

  • Master Degree in Public Administration or Master's Degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in leadership roles. A significant experience in managing people, process improvement, project management, business/systems analysis and developing policy and legislation.
  • Preference may be given to candidates who have completed formal training in change management, project management, strategic planning and execution, law (government functions, constitutional), leadership and government operations.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience in a field such as law, leadership, innovation may be considered.

The position requires superior oral proficiency in English and French. Please state your linguistic proficiency. Please confirm in your application your preferred official language for the purpose of interview and assessment.

Wage:
Pay Band 10 : $129,766 to $142,740 annually.

Work environment:

  • Office location: 250 King Street, Fredericton.
  • Standard hours of work: Monday - Friday, 8:15-4:30.
