OVERVIEW
The Hibernia and Hebron Research & Development (R&D) initiative encompasses a new portfolio of projects in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Additive Manufacturing, Ocean Technology, and Subsurface Prediction and is administered by Research Initiatives and Services (RIS).
Memorial's Centre for Artificial Intelligence (AI), established in the spring of 2024, is seeking a coordinator and business developer to help grow and realize the strategic opportunities and value the Centre provides to the rapidly growing high-tech ecosystem in St. John's and across Newfoundland and Labrador (NL). The successful candidate will work for the Director of the Centre for AI, which supports three master's programs (Master of Applied Science in Software Engineering, Master of Artificial Intelligence, and Master of Data Science), comprising approximately 100 students per year. The Centre for AI is mandated to support advanced teaching and learning in software engineering, artificial intelligence, and data science, as well as to foster industry engagement. The successful candidate will also be encouraged to pursue novel growth opportunities, expand collaborations, deploy students, and potentially help lead technical projects.
DUTIES
The successful applicant, who will report administratively to the Associate Director, Hibernia and Hebron R&D initiative (Memorial Research Initiatives and Services), will be responsible for supporting the Centre's programs and communications, executing strategy and developing and managing external business relationships as part of the Hibernia and Hebron R&D Initiative. Duties include assisting in matching graduate students under the Centre for AI with NL companies to enable integrated learning and internship opportunities; developing and managing support programs for Centre for AI students (e.g., career readiness); maintaining existing, and establishing new cross-university collaborations; assisting in managing external stakeholder engagements, including funding agencies; supporting research and resourcing collaborations with industry and academic partners; coordinating strategic initiatives and continuous improvement of Centre for AI programming; managing the use of the Centre for AI space; supporting the activities of the Director of the Centre for AI; and performing other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience (3-5 years) in technical management or project management; completion of a master's degree in engineering, science, business administration, or organizational management is required; or an equivalent combination of experience and training will be considered. The ideal candidate will have experience in budget preparation, business strategy development, and external communications, as well as strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and in a team environment are essential. Experience in a research grants administration capacity and extensive knowledge of the Newfoundland and Labrador technology industry would be considered assets.
Research Initiatives and Services is a hybrid work-from-home unit.
SALARY $72,832 - $94,409 per annum (Management and Professional)
