Lead Engineer, Major Projects

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro is offering a challenging and exciting opportunity to join our team. Working in a creative, fast-paced environment, you'll be part of transforming the future of the province's energy sector. Our long term plan includes an ambitious capital program to rebuild, renew and replace portions of our installed asset base.
Working within Hydro's Major Projects team, this position will aide in ensuring that projects are delivered successfully for the Utility. This position is responsible for the overall technical engineering oversight of the assigned project scope, specifically High Voltage transmission. This role will consist of leading multiple engineering disciplines and working with external design consultants to ensure delivery and proper turnover to operations. Responsibilities will span from the planning to the detailed engineering phase and through to completion. The incumbent will rely on strong operational and corporate interfaces to complete the required scope.
Responsibilities and Requirements:
The successful candidate will be required to lead and coordinate a team working within a matrix organization. General responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Working with the project management team, establish an effective project organization through the identification of required engineering discipline resources that can effectively support the delivery of the department's initiatives for their assigned project.
- Overall technical responsibility from an owner's perspective for the assigned project scope, ensuring NL Hydro's operational standards and norms are included in the project design, construction, and completion.
- Act as a point of contact between the Major Project team and corporate department with respect to technical details and project requirements.
- Work with project management team to identify risks and assist with associated risk management plans.
- Provide and obtain technical input as required to the Supplier's/Contractor documentation; in addition, perform review and coordinate comments.
- Support Site Engineer/ Construction Engineers to determine technical solutions with the engineering team as required.
Qualifications:
To excel in this position, you will need to bring the following:
- Extensive background (5-10+ years) on large engineering and construction projects with a focus on Electric Utility infrastructure.
- Professional Engineer (Electrical Preferred) eligible for registration with PEGNL.
- Demonstrated leadership skills in developing and leading diverse work teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with large utility projects from a technical engineering management perspective.
- Adaptability to perform in different work environments.
- A team focused approach and collaborative nature is required.
