THE POSITION:

The Scotiabank Centre managed by Events East Group is now inviting applications for the position of Scotiabank Centre Capital Project Manager with our Building Services team.

The Scotiabank Centre Capital Project Manager reports to the Vice President of Corporate Services and oversees strategic capital work in Scotiabank Centre, operated by Event's East. The Scotiabank Centre Capital Project Manager will ensure safe work environments. This includes, but is not limited to, the National Building Code of Canada, the National Fire Code of Canada, the Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Act, and the Nova Scotia Accessibility Act.

The Scotiabank Centre Capital Project Manager will liaise directly with Halifax Regional Municipality's (HRM) representatives. The Manager will also provide regular updates and reports to senior management, stakeholders, and clients on project status, risks, and accomplishments. The manager will maintain clear and effective communication with all stakeholders to ensure project goals, timelines, and expectations are aligned. The Scotiabank Centre Capital Project Manager will also lead meetings, presentations, and briefings to inform everyone of key developments.


THE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operations:

  • Oversee all property-related strategic capital projects for Scotiabank Centre, ensuring proper planning and execution.
  • Act as Events East's representative in all interactions with capital project contractors, ensuring safe workspaces and effective construction processes.
  • Responsible for supporting the creation of a multi-year capital budget program for the Scotiabank Centre.
  • Oversee procurement activities related to capital projects in relationship with HRM and ensure procurement is performed in accordance with Nova Scotia procurement guidelines.
  • Collaborate with ARMCO Capital Management to develop joint capital plans that clearly define responsibilities and cost allocations.
  • Participate in the Shared Services and Facilities Agreement (SSFA) Works committee, as needed, related to capital projects.
  • Plan and prepare construction schedules and milestones and monitor progress against established schedules.
  • Develop and implement quality control programs.
  • Other duties as required.

Administration:

  • Liaise directly with Municipal staff on strategic capital project funding and approval processes.
  • Develop and manage procedures for the design, procurement, and construction of capital projects in Scotiabank Centre with Halifax Regional Municipality to maximize resource efficiency.
  • Maintained detailed documentation and reported on all capital projects, budgets, and procurement activities.

Management:

  • Provide strategic support on capital-related issues for the company.
  • Ensure compliance with the Nova Scotia Government purchasing and contracting guidelines and directives and the HRM Procurement Policy.
  • Champion capital project initiatives, ensuring alignment with corporate goals and long-term planning.
  • Foster strong relationships with contractors and HRM representatives to ensure effective project execution.
  • Foster positive relationships with all teams, champion organizational values, and recognize colleagues demonstrating supporting behaviors.
  • Actively participate and provide constructive management of meetings, projects, and working groups as assigned and directed.

Training & Development:

  • Support and participate fully in all training and development initiatives.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to staff involved in capital project planning and execution.

Health & Safety:

  • Work with contractors to ensure all capital projects comply with the Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Create, promote, and follow all departmental standards and guidelines, job procedures, and equipment operation protocols to ensure the safety of oneself, team members, and clients.
  • Wear, use, and ensure the appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required, and report any issues or violations within the team or onsite to the direct supervisor.

THE PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Experience

  • Professional project management certification or comparable level of education and experience combined.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of project management, preferably in an engineering or construction environment on large-scale projects.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in building technologies, facility administration, and capital and budget administration.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous quality improvement.
  • Experience in procurement and contract administration.

Physical Demands

  • Though this position will have administrative duties, a significant portion of time will be required to work in construction sites, requiring the ability to meet physical demands such as standing for extended periods, bending, climbing, and walking throughout the building and on uneven flooring.
