The Opportunity
This position will support the municipality's mandate of ensuring public safety by maintaining and repairing the Town's fleet by working alongside a team in the Public Works garage. The successful candidate will be mechanically inclined and responsible for the safe and effective operations of trucks and heavy equipment.
Key Responsibilities
· Inspection and repairs of damaged and malfunctioning fleet vehicles.
· Perform routine preventive maintenance of Town-owned vehicles and heavy equipment.
· Using diagnostic tools for mechanical investigation on various vehicles and equipment.
· Inspection of equipment and vehicle for safety certification.
· Maintaining records and required inventory; and
· Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications
· High School Diploma or successful completion of GED.
· Provincial Certification as a Truck & Transport Mechanic.
· 2 years' experience in truck and transport or automotive repair would be an asset.
· Possess a valid New Brunswick Class 5 driver's license accompanied with a clean driver's abstract.
· Have a clear safety record; and
· Understand the critical customer service role of municipal employees.
Working Conditions
The successful candidate must have the capacity to withstand periods of physical exertion which may include walking/standing/sitting for extended periods of time, bending, reaching, crawling, pushing, climbing on ladders, shoveling, and heavy lifting (50 lbs.). This position is subject to working alone for periods of time with loud equipment.
Hours of Work
Rotating Days, Evenings, Nights, weekends, holidays, on call and overtime; subject to change due to operational requirements.
