Definition of work:
The Pharmacy Technician is responsible and accountable for the technical functions of pharmacy operations. Duties include measuring, packaging & labelling pharmaceuticals, re-stocking nursing units, filling and checking prescriptions, delivering narcotics and other medications, preparation of IV solutions including chemotherapy, ordering from pharmaceutical companies, compounding, record keeping/maintenance for narcotics and other medications, BPMH collections and other as-signed duties. Work is challenging and requires accuracy. Computer skills are required to perform most duties. The Pharmacy Technician may also be required to perform OH&S duties related to the new hazardous drugs standards. The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.
Physical Demands:
Light to Medium: Occasional lifting or carrying items weighing up to 50 lbs.; frequently handling items 20 lbs. or less. Work in this position requires a significant amount of walking and the use of light whole-body push/pull force. Weekend work
may be required.
Required qualifications:
• Graduation from High School with a diploma recognized by the Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
• Graduation from a recognized and accredited Pharmacy Technician Program or successfully completed the Pharmacy Technician Bridging Program.
• Current registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador Pharmacy Board.
• Demonstrated experience with unit dose, computerized top-up programs and Meditech Computer Systems.
• Demonstrated Keyboarding skills and computer experience.
• Demonstrated high level of alertness and concentration when performing tasks.
• Demonstrated effective time management skills and ability to prioritize.
• Consistent demonstration of the core values of NL Health Services: Innovation, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence (I CARE)
• A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
• A satisfactory Certificate of Conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.
