The Opportunity
We are currently seeking an Environmental Advisor to join our Environment Team in Manitoba. This is a permanent position in Thompson, Manitoba.
Relocation to Thompson, Manitoba will be required.
The Manitoba Environment Team is part of the larger Manitoba Operations Safety, Health, Environment and Risk organization. The team provides monitoring and implements systems to ensure environmental compliance throughout our operations. Members of this team work collaboratively to support the operations including monitoring, project support, permitting, closure planning, waste management, internal and external reporting, as well as community and government liaison.
Additionally in this position you will:
- Develop and maintain the environmental management system (ISO14001), policies and procedures.
- Interface with other functions in the operations to prepare, submit, and monitor progress of the various plans/reports required to meet compliance standards.
- Develop and execute the Environmental plan and ISO14001. Ensure quality assurance and quality control aspects of monitoring programs, equipment and collected data are maintained.
- Develop and conduct compliance monitoring programs (e.g., ambient air, water quality, soil, wildlife, etc.) as stipulated in regulatory approvals for Area operations. Coordinate reporting to meet regulatory, corporate and other external requirements.
- Conduct or manage effects monitoring as prescribed in the Environmental Effects Monitoring program (e.g., Metal Diamond Mining Ef?uent Regulations) per applicable regulatory, corporate and social requirements.
- Coordinate and manage environmental programs/projects as defined in the department annual execution plan. Assist with regulatory reporting and notifications along with developing and delivering environmental training as requested.
About You
Education:
- Undergraduate degree in Environmental Science or other relevant discipline will be considered.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of related experience is required.
- Experience in mining or similar industrial setting is considered an asset.
Skills:
- Proven experience in environmental sampling and data analysis and knowledge of provincial and federal environmental regulations
- Familiarity with environmental issues in metal mining/processing industry, environmental compliance and effective monitoring.
- Experience in applying and maintaining environmental permits. Familiarity with ISO14001 and knowledge of SAP-IM
- Demonstrated understanding of environmental technologies, applications and management systems. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and proficient with Microsoft Office products.
