The Corporate Environment team provides oversight on environmental matters and establishes corporate strategies and programs based on best management practices and industry standards. This includes, maintaining a Corporate Environmental Management System (EMS) and supporting divisional EMSs, communicating legislative and regulatory changes, acquiring permits and approvals required to construct, operate and maintain NB Power's assets, performing compliance audits and submitting regulatory reports and information, as required.
As part of the Corporate Environment team, the Environmental Operations Specialist is a key contributor to the Team's mandate. The incumbent is responsible for overseeing the regulatory requirements associated with conditions of NB Power's Air Quality Approvals to Operate, as well as compliance obligations of the New Brunswick Output Based Pricing System (OBPS). In addition, this Environmental Operations Specialist is responsible for calculating releases to air, water and land and reporting data to the federal National Pollution Release Inventory Program as required by the Canadian Environmental Protection Act.
Key functions include:
• Managing the air quality file for all generating stations
• Quantifying NB Power's Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions in accordance with the provincial Output Based Pricing System (OBPS) and the federal Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Management Program
• Ensuring compliance with the requirements of the National Pollution Inventory Program
Our ideal teammate will have:
• A Bachelor of Science Degree in area of Environmental Science, Engineering, Chemistry
• Six years of related experience in environmental programs including experience developing and implementing effective environmental programs and procedures
• Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply environmental legislation and regulations effectively
• Intermediate proficiency in MS Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Project, and PowerPoint
• Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate across all levels of the organization and with external regulatory agencies to provide technical guidance
An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be modified.
