Service New Brunswick is seeking an individual to join the Laundry and Linen Services Division as a Health and Safety Consultant in Saint John.

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the successful candidate will work in close cooperation with the Corporation's Wellness, Health and Safety Consultant in order to provide client focused recommendations and services in the areas of health and safety within the Laundry and Linen Services Division. Key responsibilities of this position are:

  • Providing guidance on occupational health and safety standards, legislation, policies, risk assessment methodologies and safety management systems.
  • Leading the implementation of a safety and health management system
  • Participating in developing, administering and maintaining a health and safety program, tools and initiatives with an emphasis on compliance, critical hazard identification and risk reduction designed to promote a culture of skilled and safe employees.
  • Evaluating current health and safety processes and practices to ensure standardization in processes and application.
  • Coordinating and/or delivering required regulatory health and safety educational sessions.
  • Assisting with the roll out of health and safety initiatives.
  • Providing advice, tools and technical support related to conducting investigations related to serious accidents, incidents, hazardous materials, near misses, issues and complaints.
  • Liaising with WorkSafe NB and Management, assisting and advising the client as it relates to any regulatory requirements or order.
  • Coaching managers, supervisors and employees on their duties as it relates to health and safety.
  • Participate in operational activities which ensure compliance with safety standards and practices in the workplace.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University degree in a related field with a minimum of four (4) years of safety-related work experience; OR
  • a two (2) year post-secondary diploma in a related field with a minimum of six (6) years of safety-related work experience; OR
  • a one (1) year post?secondary certificate in a related field with a minimum of seven (7) years of safety-related work experience.
  • Written and spoken competence in English is required. Please state your language capability.

Subject to the response to this competition, an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Applicants must clearly demonstrate the essential qualifications to be given further consideration. Please ensure that preferred language for assessment is identified on your resume.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS: Preference may be given to candidates who demonstrate the following asset qualifications:

  • A certificate in a recognized Health and Safety program
  • Possess or be eligible to obtain the Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation as per the Eligibility Guidelines for the CRSP/PSAC Certification

Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This position may require some travel to other laundry sites provincially to support management and safety initiatives; candidates must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Candidates will be required to undergo Criminal History Clearance prior to appointment.
