JOB PURPOSE

The Phlebotomists performs venous and capillary blood procurement.

QUALIFICATIONS

• High school graduation plus a Phlebotomy certification of 8 weeks or equivalent.
• Ability to attend work on a regular basis.
• Ability to perform the duties of the position.
• Good work record.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Phlebotomist is responsible for:

• Ensures patient identification matches with order sheet.
• Enters requisition data; prints bar code labels and labels specimens.
• Draws venous and capillary blood for analysis.
• Observes patient during procedure for adverse reactions.
• Records procedures and tests; compiles statistics.
• Collects specimens such as urea breath tests, sweat chloride as required.
• Prepares and transports specimens to laboratory according to Transportation of Dangerous good requirements.
