Your every day with us:

As an Enterprise Data Architect, you will gain an understanding of our lines of business and the underpinning technology solutions that support our business model. This role will be responsible for proactively advising and overseeing ongoing advancements of our enterprise data and BI solution architecture. Responsible for the development and execution of the enterprise data strategy.

  • Lead the design of innovative Data & Analytics architectures and solutions that balance the latest and disruptive technologies. Guide the evolution of the existing data warehouse solution. Architect data solutions to meet our current and future business needs, budget constraints, data availability and resource requirements.
  • Collaborate across various business units and other solution architects to define metadata layers, technical data strategies and optimal integration. Drive adoption of innovative technologies within and beyond the existing enterprise architecture framework.
  • Lead evaluation and selection of the tools and components necessary for optimal data management (data acquisition, data storage, data quality, data governance, data visualization and advanced analytics).
  • Drive the enterprise adoption of cloud-based data solutions for storage and compute. Implement solutions for cloud-based report delivery and business intelligence self-service for external and internal clients.
  • Support the Data Strategy Lead in the development and rollout of Medavie's enterprise data strategy. Support the implementation of strategic roadmap across all business areas.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert, both as a technical go-to for the data delivery teams as well as offering consultancy across the business enabling business data teams. The role will include working closely with BI operational and project teams to ensure alignment/consistency with defined architecture.
  • Continue to develop a deep understanding of technical advancements in the data warehouse space. Provide/advise modern information architecture technical designs and specifications for data integration and data storage to support new BI solutions.
  • Define the standards to be followed in the design of relational, dimensional and tabular data models.
  • Foster strong working relationships and people leadership practice across BI operational and strategic teams, provide mentoring to colleagues in areas of expertise.
  • Provide support as required to ensure the availability and performance of enterprise data and BI environments for our customers. Together with BI operational teams the role will be responsible for the stability of the data warehouse platform.
  • Work closely with technical services teams to ensure that BI infrastructure components remain supported. In cooperation with technical service teams continually refine the BI infrastructure architecture so that growing information demands can be serviced.
  • Ensure proper configuration management and change controls are implemented for your sphere of influence.
  • Design and implement technology best practices, guidelines and repeatable processes. Design and implement processes and procedures that ensure the data warehouse's adherence to Medavie's data policies.

Skill and experience:

  • A proven practical experience (at least 5-10 years) working in a lead data role, with strong understanding of both the theory and application of data fundamentals - preferably as a data engineer, data architect, or other similar role.
  • Direct experience with on premise and cloud data technologies such as Oracle, SQL Server, Power BI.
  • Knowledge of and experience in aligning technology infrastructure and architectural designs to drive performant enterprise level data BI solutions.
  • Practical experience with various data modelling techniques including dimensional data modelling and associated best practices.
  • Effective collaboration with business areas to understand priorities, help inform roadmaps and evolve organizational data solutions that align to strategic direction.
  • Experience developing a clear-concise target state and the roadmap required to achieve it.
  • Proficiency in data modelling and data product design as well as associated development, ETL and Visualization tools.
  • Familiar with data management, data governance and data compliance/security needs.
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing, data lakes, ETL/ELT processes and big data technologies.

What you need to succeed:

  • Great communicator - communication is clear, concise and audience appropriate. We engage with colleagues across the organization at all levels. You will be comfortable 'selling' the data story to a wide range of stakeholders and have experience in adapting presentation style from executive summary to detailed technical interaction with the development team.
  • Ability to individually develop and advance data and business intelligence related strategies and follow through with implementation, while collaborating and contributing as a member of the greater data business intelligence team.
  • Desire to drive and enable greater data analytics capabilities and broader data literacy.
  • Passionate about the protection of individual's personal information and privacy. A post-secondary diploma or degree and/or relevant working experience in business, technology or engineering.
  • You are a problem-solving master. You understand client requirements and possess the ability to transform this into technology solutions.

Security Clearance: Security Clearance Requirement: In conjunction with our contract with the Federal Government, you will be required to have Reliability Status Clearance (Enhanced Level B). This includes Fingerprinting, Criminal Record Check, Credit Check and you must have resided in Canada for at least 5 years and hold Permanent Resident or Citizenship Status.
