The Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick is seeking an editor to join the Hansard Office as a casual employee to produce French-language transcriptions of legislative proceedings.

The Hansard Office produces the Journal of Debates, commonly known as Hansard, for the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick. Hansard staff record sittings of the House, committee meetings, and special events in digital recording systems and use the recordings to produce transcripts of the proceedings. When edited and translated, the Hansard for each daily sitting is posted to the website of the Legislative Assembly.

The principal responsibilities for this position include:

  • Creating transcripts from digital audio recordings;
  • Editing transcripts for grammar, syntax, punctuation, and format;
  • Conducting research to verify transcript content.

Essential Qualifications:

  • A university degree, with a minimum of three years of related work experience;
  • Superior proficiency in written French;
  • Superior competency in French grammar, syntax, and punctuation;
  • Listening comprehension skills to accurately convert speech to text;
  • Editing and research ability, with a highly developed attention to detail;
  • Ability to meet deadlines and adapt to changing priorities.

Written and spoken competence in French is required. Language ability must be clearly indicated on the application. Applicants must clearly demonstrate the essential qualifications to be given further consideration. Please ensure that the preferred language of assessment is indicated.

Asset Qualifications:

  • Experience in editing;
  • Knowledge of New Brunswick politics, news, and current events.

Operational Requirements:

Working hours will vary and will be scheduled from Tuesday to Friday each week during the legislative session, which lasts, on average, for 40 sitting days per year.

Hourly Rate:
$25.47¿$42.74, depending on education and experience.
